Recently Novak Djokovic announced that Andy Murray will no longer be in his entourage. This came after a string of poor results as the Serb lost three consecutive matches twice this season, including in his two clay-court tournaments, the Monte Carlo Masters and the Madrid Open, where he failed to clinch a set.

Now days after that split, reports emerged that Murray has found a new job. He has become an associate partner at an investment firm, Redrice Ventures. The Scot, winner of three Grand Slam titles, has previously worked with the company after investing in Castore.

I’ve seen it before with other athletes, when they haven’t had other interests straight after sport, it becomes hard for them to know who they are. My plan was always to spend more time on my other business interests once I’d finished playing tennis, and I’m enjoying starting to work on some of those projects now.
Andy Murray told The Sunday Times

Murray’s partnership with Djokovic did not last for more than six months. He joined the Serb’s team after hanging up his racket at the Paris Olympics last year.

Under him, the 24-time Grand Slam champion reached the Miami Open final where youngster Jakub Mensik denied him his 100th tour-level title. Djokovic also reached the semifinal of the Australian Open while working with Murray, but an injury forced him to withdraw from his match against Alexander Zverev after losing the first set.

Andy Roddick doesn’t think Novak Djokovic will hire another coach

Now that Andy Murray is no longer a part of Novak Djokovic‘s team, who the three-time French Open champion will hire as his next coach? According to 2003 US Open champion Andy Roddick, Djokovic won’t be hiring anyone.

I don’t think so. If anything, you bring in one of the people that he’s worked with before just for comfort, just because they know how he operates. Someone who knows you, likes, to stretch it at certain times before you play. I think it’s more familiarity at this point. Murray provided the spark, provided the respected voice in the room.

Djokovic had skipped the recently concluded Italian Open, missing last year’s European Masters 1000 tournament for the first time. His next goal is to get some match practice before the French Open, which starts on May 25.

Nole will be playing in the ongoing Geneva Open and will kick-start his campaign against Marton Fucsovics, against whom he has played five matches, winning all. The last time they played each other was in the second round of the 2023 French Open which Djokovic won later (his 23rd Grand Slam title) by beating Casper Ruud in the final.

Djokovic last year too participated in the ATP 250 tournament but lost the semifinal to Tomas Machac. In the tournament, Djokovic will be chasing his first title of the season. He hasn’t yet taken home a trophy since winning the Paris Olympics last year.

Novak Djokovic last won a title at the 2023 US Open

Djokovic was the winner of three Grand Slam titles in 2023, falling short of the Calendar Grand Slam due to his five-set defeat to Carlos Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final. Last year, he lost in the Australian Open semifinal to eventual winner and World No.1 Jannik Sinner, then reached the French Open quarterfinals but an injury forced him to withdraw from the match.

He registered his second consecutive defeat to Alcaraz in the Wimbledon semifinal. And at the US Open, he fell in the third round. He will be 38 on May 22 and though it’s difficult to write the Serbian great off, his age is making it difficult for him to play to his full potential.
