Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles won Super Bowl LIX in stunning fashion. Then they celebrated the win with their passionate fans who thronged the streets to watch their sporting heroes hold the Vince Lombardi Trophy for the second time ever.
Hurts took it one step further and used the situation to promote his ‘Love, Hurts’ brand, which helped Jordan Brand sell out hoodies featuring that quote. It all pointed to a situation where the superstar QB was finally getting the appreciation he deserved.
After all, prior to the Super Bowl, many questioned if he had it in him to lead them to glory. Some analysts believed he was average at best. But he used all that as motivation to win the ultimate prize and prove that he is worth the $255 million contract he signed back in 2023.
Now, as he became the de facto leading superstar of this team, he looked poised and reeked of leadership qualities. But then, that leadership seemed to vanish when he skipped the White House visit where he could celebrate the Super Bowl win with President Donald Trump.
I wasn’t available. I don’t think that’s pertinent. Everyone who went and was available they seemed to enjoy themselves.

The 26-year-old’s response was quick, well thought out, and diplomatic. He did not reveal his true reasons and avoided controversy by suggesting it was a mere scheduling conflict. This answer avoided any follow-up questions from going his way at the press conference after their offseason workout program on Tuesday.
Jalen Hurts’ answer might help his teammates avoid controversy
Jalen Hurts‘ diplomatic answer might have stirred up some controversy, considering he did not want to clearly state his political stance. The scheduling conflict excuse might not sit well with others, particularly conservatives who support Donald Trump, considering Hurts was available for other brand-building exercises.

Saquon Barkley‘s visit and the time spent with Trump did receive some heat. But AJ Brown, Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, Brandon Graham, Nolan Smith, Zack Baun, Nakobe Dean, CJ Gardner-Johnson, DeVonta Smith, Darius Slay, and Quinyon Mitchell skipped the White House visit.
All those teammates could avoid talking about this situation, considering how they could just follow the same road their star quarterback walked on. Hurts has a team of experts who advise him on every matter. But his teammates might not have that same luxury.
This answer could help the rest of the team excuse themselves from facing any controversy. They know that once the fans and media focus on other aspects of the team, this conversation will become a distant memory.
Jalen Hurts happy for Nick Sirianni’s contract extension
Hurts is not the only one to have defied expectations to win Super Bowl LIX. The same criticism was often directed at head coach Nick Sirianni. Now, after winning a ring, the Philadelphia Eagles decided to reward him with a contract extension. When the star QB was asked about this, he said:
Congratulations to him, everything he’s been able to achieve and accomplish, he’s earned. Just to say his evolution and his growth, from my perspective playing quarterback for him his entire tenure here, it’s been a great experience, a great ride. It’s been a lot learning for the both of us. Hopefully, we’re just getting started.

The Eagles confirmed the news on their website that they had indeed handed Sirianni a contract extension on May 19th. However, they have not disclosed the terms of the contract. Considering he was paid $7 million previously, it is rumored that the new deal might see him earning at least twice of that.

The league’s top coaches earn $16 – 20 million. It is unknown if he falls in that bracket, but going by how they have stuck with him, it is possible that he might be closer to Andy Reid‘s $20 million per year number.
