40-year-old LeBron James Getting 2nd Team All-NBA Honors has Fans Confused: “Behind Tatum Is So Disrespectful”
Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James has seen his name on All-NBA teams in every year of his career except his rookie season.

LeBron James has been a beacon of excellence as a basketball player for his entire career. This season was his 22nd in the league, and he helped the Los Angeles Lakers climb to third in the standings. He achieved that despite shifting roles in the middle of the season once Luka Doncic came in.
Before Doncic’s arrival, the 40-year-old was playing the point forward position he excelled in for the previous six seasons. That made him the primary playmaker on a Lakers team deploying essentially the same roster from last season.
Once the Slovenian came in, head coach JJ Redick asked him to shift to a roaming scoring role. He happily relinquished his playmaking duties and was catching passes from Doncic while cutting across the court and scoring.
Despite playing both roles, he finished his 22nd campaign with a stat line of 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.2 assists. His scoring took a marginal hit, which saw him dip below 25 points per game for the first time since his rookie season.
Those numbers, though, were enough to garner him a place on an All-NBA team. This time, it was on the 2nd team, an improvement over last season when he was selected to the 3rd Team. This selection marks the 21st straight season he has been named to an All-NBA list.
All-NBA:
— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) May 23, 2025
1st: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Nikola Jokic, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jayson Tatum, Donovan Mitchell
2nd: Jalen Brunson, Stephen Curry, Anthony Edwards, LeBron James, Evan Mobley
3rd: Cade Cunningham, Tyrese Haliburton, James Harden, Karl-Anthony Towns, Jalen Williams
Team performance might have helped him rise one level despite his slightly lower scoring numbers. But for a 40-year-old, this was quite the achievement, as no other player at his age could even average anything close to his numbers.
Fans believe LeBron James should have been 1st Team All-NBA
LeBron James has many critics across the sporting landscape. But this time, even those critics, along with other basketball fans, asked the same question. How can someone at that age, racking up those numbers, fall to 2nd Team All-NBA?

They particularly took offense to Jayson Tatum and Donovan Mitchell‘s selections, believing those two players were beneficiaries of a much better roster. Fans believe James had done enough to drag the Los Angeles Lakers, who do not have the roster to match either of the top teams in the league, up to 3rd in the highly competitive West. Fans voiced their frustrations on social media, examples of which are below.

Lebron still making 2nd team at 40 is insane I would feel a way about myself if I was in the league and LeBron still in the top two teams

Some believe James benefited from JJ Redick’s coaching. The 40-year-old had some questionable moments throughout the season, and fans cannot forget his inexcusable performances in the playoffs. But in the regular season, LeBron James had done enough to garner a 1st team vote.
LeBron James and wife Savannah celebrate son Bryce’s graduation
LeBron James’ first son, Bronny, is playing alongside him on the Los Angeles Lakers. The 40-year-old superstar is rethinking his NBA career and will take time to decide about his future. But now in the offseason, he is dedicating his time to his family.
Earlier yesterday, his younger son, Bryce James, graduated from Sierra Canyon, and his parents and siblings were with him as he tossed his graduation hat into the air. Savannah James wrote this on her Instagram page to reveal how proud she and her husband were to cherish this moment.
Yesterday we celebrated Bryce as he walks into a new chapter of life!! So proud of you and all the hard work you’ve done to get to this point. This is only the beginning! Keep striving to be the absolute best version of you! Love you more than words can explain and so excited to see what the future has for you!!
Savannah James wrote
As Bryce James gets ready to leave their home and play in Arizona, fans might wonder if his father will continue his career long enough to see him become a fellow professional in the NBA. The 17-year-old is not sure his father would do that, but when it comes to a father’s love, no one knows what King James will decide.
