Prominent UFC heavyweight Curtis ‘Razor’ Blaydes was to take on debuting Rizvan Kuniev at the PPV prelim closer of the UFC 313 card. However, he fell victim to norovirus and could not make that fight. Now, the duo links up again in the upcoming UFC on ABC 8 fight night lineup at Baku, Azerbaijan. Before that, ‘Razor’ has gone viral for his new chops.

This marks his first ballot appearance since his first-round TKO loss to Tom Aspinall in Manchester last summer. Curtis Blaydes recently sported some mountain-shaped bits (🎥: @RazorBlaydes265) with a hairstyle going very viral.

With his next challenge – Rizvan Kuniev – hailing from Dagestan, many have surmised this is some resolute symbolism. Not uncommon in UFC/MMA cultures; ex-UFC prospect Muhammad Mokaev (ironically from Dagestan himself) recently also had his opponent douse his training in Dagestan.

Dagestani mountainmen are a notoriety for their immense gas tank, rigor, and combat sambo proficiency. So, to tout being able to defeat one and actually do goes a long way. On the other hand, heavyweight Curtis Blaydes trains at Elevation Fight Team in Colorado. So, the prime symbolism might just instead stand for the mountains of Colorado vs. Dagestan.

The fighter also endorses brands like @BosleyMedical and Bevel for shaving and hair kit supplements. So this might just be a new venture, overall. Anyway, UFC brass is making its first-ever trip to Azerbaijan this summer, and the perennial contender has a lot to look forward to. Curtis Blaydes has chosen to do it in style. Consequently, Blaydes isn’t the only rebilled fight for UFC Azerbaijan, aka UFC on ABC 8.

Poster for UFC on ABC 8 is out for the fight between Jamahal Hill and Khalil Rountree Jr. in Azerbaijan, with returning names

The promotion is headed to the capital city of Baku for UFC on ABC 8, which features a light heavyweight matchup between former champ Jamahal Hill and Khalil Rountree. Both fighters will be looking forward to finding themselves back in the win column after recent losses.

No. 7-seeded Rountree was a recent title challenger to Alex Pereira in the UFC 307 PPV main event. He did vibe an upcoming challenge vs. Hill, but ‘Sweet Dreams’ had dumbed it down.

Hill, on the other hand, could not regain gold, subject to a knockout in the UFC 300 PPV headliner last April. After that, he went to war with Jiri Prochazka at UFC 311 right after. The duo was set to hash it out for UFC Kansas City as a part of a TKO Group Holdings takeover. But the fight got postponed yet again, to UFC on ABC 8.

Ignacio Bahamondes vs. Rafael Fiziev is another couple of returning names for the event. After Joe Pyfer and Loopy Goodinez, Curtis Blaydes was the most surprising name struck by the norovirus. Now, he too can make a fateful return at last. Overall, the UFC on ABC 8 lineup is stacked with high-profile names.
