Ever since Luka Doncic joined the Los Angeles Lakers, questions about his conditioning have run throughout the NBA. Fans and media personnel have wondered if that is what led the Dallas Mavericks to bail on him despite him leading them to the Finals just a season ago.

When he was traded, noise about his inability to stay healthy started to emanate. Hall of Famer Charles Barkley questioned if the Mavericks knew something about the Slovenian’s eating and conditioning habits that they felt could deter a title run.

A few days into his stint in Los Angeles, Doncic looked a lot fitter than he was in Dallas. Fans and media believed he was getting ready for revenge. The Slovenian did get his revenge in his return to the team that drafted him, but that did not translate to success in the playoffs.

The Lakers embarrassingly lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves, and some of the blame was on rookie head coach JJ Redick for using his starters a lot more than required. But after the playoffs, he insisted that the team was not in championship shape.

He and the staff would devise customized offseason conditioning programs for each player so that they get into shape before the season starts. A video of Luka Doncic at a Real Madrid basketball game seems to prove that Redick’s plan is taking shape.

The superstar was with Real Madrid supremo Florentino Perez to watch his old team play. He was wearing a white t-shirt, and another photo of him clapping while standing up proved to Lakers fans that his arms and torso are toned.

Lakers fans hyped as Luka Doncic takes his conditioning seriously

When these clips made it to the hands of Los Angeles Lakers fans, they could not believe how toned Luka Doncic looked. Admittedly, there were times when it felt as if the 26-year-old was not being able to stay in shape. But now they are happy that JJ Redick’s offseason plan is taking shape.

He is their most important player, and if the franchise is to make a run at the NBA title, they need him to be fit. They believe if he has committed to eating well and staying in shape, then it can bode well for the long run. Check out some of those social media comments below.

Just being fit before the season starts is only one part of the puzzle. The Slovenian has to ensure his commitment stays throughout the season. If only he keeps his focus, the Lakers can think of taking the fight to the other playoff contenders.

Luka Doncic was working out at Real Madrid’s courts, too

There are still several months left before NBA players take their offseason workouts seriously. Usually, they rest for the first two months, and then start to get back into shape. But Luka Doncic seems to have hit the ground after ending his debut season just over three weeks ago.

The 5-time All-NBA 1st teamer shared a photo of himself working out on the Real Madrid practice courts. That reinforced the belief among Los Angeles Lakers fans that he wants to ensure he gets into rhythm early on.

It seems he is trying to make it a habit. Creating a new habit requires one to start early and get into a routine. If he attempted this later in the offseason, it would be difficult to hold it down once practices start. But if he gets used to it over the next three months, it will be easier to continue that process.

It is also possible that he is listening to LeBron James. The 40-year-old is a beacon of fitness and conditioning and will be the best person to get his younger teammate going early on. If all of this ends up helping the Los Angeles Lakers win another title, Doncic will finally shed the tag of not being driven.
