Angel Reese was set to take a leap in her second season in the WNBA. She had apparently worked out with Hall of Famers and was looking forward to helping her Chicago Sky play competitive winning basketball on their way to the playoffs.
In her first game, her tussle with Caitlin Clark managed to shift the focus from their embarrassing opening-night loss. She notched a double-double, which seemed to be at least a continuation of her record-setting runs from last year.
In their second game, the New York Liberty beat them by 25 points. But what stood out was the paltry 2 points the LSU star had to show. Fans and analysts questioned if her play was helping the team, but still it was early days with a new head coach, therefore, the reaction from those fans seemed to be too early.
Today was their third game against Kelsey Plum and her Los Angeles Sparks. Reese came back to record another double-double. But it was not enough for the Chicago Sky, as they lost their third-straight game after her teammates could not help her this time.
But the play that caught the attention of fans was when Plum seemingly embarrassed the rebounding phenom. Early in the 1st quarter, the Sparks squared up to Reese, hesitated to draw the forward, then blew by to score a left-handed layup.

After the score, the Olympic gold medalist brought out the ‘too small’ celebration. It was to troll the 6′ 3″ Reese, who could not stop Kelsey Plum despite having a 7″ height advantage along with a longer wingspan.
Angel Reese and Sky show some improvement in overall team play
In the loss to the New York Liberty, there were instances where Angel Reese held on to the ball over many possessions, yet failed to score. She did not spot her teammates, and that seemed to infuriate some. In this game, thankfully, she displayed none of that.

She brought back the patience with which she helped her Chicago Sky win in the preseason. The forward was also smarter in her spacing around the rim. The improvements were not limited to Reese, as her teammates also seemed to be moving the ball better than before.
The Los Angeles Sparks are a better team overall, even if they were playing without two starters and one crucial role player. The Sky’s improvements against them should encourage their fans. It should even ease some pressure off their leading superstar.
Angel Reese has been subjected to a lot of criticism over the past two seasons. If this progress can continue, they could start winning games soon. They do have another tough road game next, but after that, they have a chance to start winning.
Angel Reese and Sky can start winning against Paige Bueckers’ Wings
Angel Reese and her Chicago Sky will next face the Phoenix Mercury. Last season, Alyssa Thomas gave a rookie Reese, her welcome to the league moment. But since then, the Unrivaled champion has learnt to use her legs better to avoid being tossed around.
The Mercury is too strong and might steamroll the Sky. But after that game, Reese and her teammates will face rookie Paige Bueckers and her similarly struggling Dallas Wings. The Wings have similar chemistry woes as the Sky, and the road team could take advantage of that.
If the Illinois-based team can win both games against the Wings, it should be a great confidence booster. They say winning cures all, and Reese and her teammates would be hoping that some wins can finally kickstart their campaign.
