The Pittsburgh Pirates lost again on Tuesday night. Once again, the team ended up on the losing side following another dominating performance from pitcher Paul Skenes on the mound. This is something that has not sat well with the fans.
Skenes, the 2024 National League Rookie of the Year, has dominated the opposition batters. However, his teammates have failed to support him in the offense, that had led to several losses.
The 2023 No.1 draft pick threw 8 innings and managed to pick up 8 strikeouts while having just 3 hits. One of those hits though turned out to be the decisive moment of the game.
With one out in the top of the seventh inning, Skenes threw a sweeper to Christian Walker. The Houston Astros star managed to connect on that one and slammed a solo home run to break the deadlock and give his side the lead.
That turned out to be the only run that Skenes gave up. Dennis Santana, who came in to relieve the starting pitcher, gave up 2 runs in the 9th inning which took the game away from the Pirates. The team were unable to score any runs and ended up losing 3-0.

Skene’s is wasting his time. He needs to be in a Yankees uniform— a team that will appreciate his talent.

Following this loss, the Pirates have a 22-39 record. It was also the 10th time this season that they had been shut out.
Pirates GM recently shut down trade speculations regarding Paul Skenes
The Pittsburgh Pirates are not playing well again this season. The National League Central side is struggling again and are rooted at the bottom of their division. All of this has ignited some speculations regarding the trade of Paul Skenes.

Skenes, who joined the team as the No.1 draft pick, will become a free agent in the 2029-30 offseason. However, given the way things have been going, the Pirates could be forced to trade away their All-Star pitcher.
Following an 8-5 loss against the Milwaukee Brewers a few weeks ago, GM Ben Cherington was asked about the prospect of trading Skenes in the press conference. He would quickly shut down rumors regarding this.
No, it’s not part of the conversation at all.

Top names such as the New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Dodgers have been brought up in this discussion. It is though likely that the Pirates will block of any trade moves for him and try to keep their ace pitcher for another season.
