Aaron Rodgers’ addition makes the Pittsburgh Steelers a better team, but are they better than the competition in the AFC North, currently ruled by Lamar Jackson and Joe Burrow? Adam Schefter is not so sure.
Rodgers committed to playing for the Steelers on Thursday after making the fans sweat for weeks. The news received mixed reviews. Some analysts believe the veteran will improve behind a better offensive line in Pittsburgh compared to his final year with the New York Jets.
Some, however, believe Rodgers’ age may affect his play on the field. Everything comes down to how far the Steelers can go with a 41-year-old quarterback.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter doubts whether Rodgers possesses enough juice to better the two powerhouse quarterbacks in the division: Lamar Jackson and Joe Burrow.
In the latest episode of Get Up on ESPN, Schefter highlighted where Rodgers stands compared to his peers.
Aaron Rodgers is the third-best quarterback in that division, no matter how great he’s been throughout the course of his career. He’s still in a division with Lamar Jackson; he’s still in a division with Joe Burrow.
Adam Schefter said
Rodgers will take the helm due to mutual admiration between him and head coach Mike Tomlin. However, Schefter pointed out Rodgers wasn’t the Steelers’ first-choice quarterback.
We should also remember that as well as Aaron Rodgers did play last year… I think he played better than people realize. He still was the Steelers’ third option. They tried to trade for Matthew Stafford—tried to re-sign Justin Fields who now Aaron Rodgers now will play on opening day and they finally wound up on Aaron Rodgers, bypassing the quarterback Dan [Graziano] was alluding to over and over again.

Robert Griffin III pronounces the Pittsburgh Steelers as Super Bowl favorites after Aaron Rodgers’ signing
The New York Jets cut Rodgers after a 5-12 season during his second year. Individually, he threw more touchdowns than MVP Josh Allen but lacked the clutch ability that won him a Super Bowl with the Packers.

Even if the results in New York did not go as planned, former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III thinks his move to the Steelers makes them the top Super Bowl contenders.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have to be Super Bowl Contenders with Aaron Rodgers at QB… They haven’t been able to find their Franchise QB since Big Ben’s retirement. They haven’t developed one and they aren’t using this year to develop one either. They are all in on Aaron Rodgers being the QB who can make enough plays to get them over the hump.

For Cameron Heyward (36) and TJ Watt (30) this is likely their last chance to win it all in a Steelers uniform.

The Steelers are an aging team, regardless of whether they have Rodgers or not. Some veteran star players want to win the Super Bowl before retiring. Rodgers is their best bet, but everything depends on his performance.
There’s no shortage of weapons. Despite losing George Pickens, the Steelers brought in All-Pro receiver DK Metcalf. Roman Wilson is poised to witness a breakout campaign, and tight end Pat Freiermuth is among the best tight ends in the league.
Jaylen Warren will lead the running back room after Najee Harris’ departure. Warren racked up 500+ from 122 carries and one touchdown while playing second fiddle to Harris.
The Steelers play three preseason games before facing the Jets, who now have Justin Fields as their quarterback.
