Caitlin Clark is still sitting on the sidelines waiting for the Indiana Fever medical staff to give her the all clear to return. Her competitive drive is pushing her to return as soon as possible, but the 23-year-old knows that she has to allow the injury to run its course.

Rushing to come back will only make it worse, as sensitive muscle injuries tend to aggravate if not completely healed. Her quad strain was initially diagnosed as a two-week layoff, but from her recovery practices, it seems she will be out a bit longer.

In the meantime, her Fever teammates lost the first two games and won the next two. Now they are awaiting their primary playmaker to return and orchestrate their offense. The Iowa native has been working on her game all offseason.

She was aware of her shortcomings from last season and worked on fixing some of them with her coach. However, some things can only be fixed while in games. WNBA legend Candace Parker feels that once Clark fixes those mistakes, there is no stopping her.

The thing about Caitlin, yeah, she can shoot from the logo, but she makes her team better. I think just in terms for her, its gonna be what are you doing without the ball in your hands, and I think its going to be taking care of the ball.

The three-time WNBA champion knows that opposition defenses first focus on stopping the likes of Caitlin Clark from setting up her teammates. She also understands that the Fever guard’s competitiveness is what pushes her to try. Candace Parker believes it is just time before Clark fixes both those issues.

Caitlin Clark has yet to break out this season

In the opening game of the 2025 WNBA season, Caitlin Clark recorded a triple-double. After that, she recorded two more double-doubles until her quad injury stopped her from playing any further. Going by the averages of those four games, she is around the ballpark of her rookie season numbers.

However, her rookie season numbers started to rise after the Olympic break. If she is already starting this season the way she ended her rookie season with an almost brand-new team and a new coaching staff, it is a positive sign. It also indicates that she is only getting ready to break out.

Before this season started, many predicted that the Iowa alum would be in the running for MVP. If Clark can return soon and start helping her team win, she might see her name appear in the league’s official MVP race.

She has worked on her game in the offseason and prioritized rest to be ready for her sophomore year. The injury has dampened what she could achieve. Once she returns, she will have to figure out a way to get the offense rolling quickly. Along with her improved defense, the 23-year-old is poised for a breakout.

Indiana Fever have to manage Caitlin Clark’s return to action

The initial diagnosis on Caitlin Clark‘s quad injury suggested she would be out at least 2 weeks. Two weeks have passed, but the superstar point guard is yet to participate in a full practice. That seemingly confirms that her quad is not 100%.

After winning against the Chicago Sky, the Indiana Fever will be looking to use that momentum to play against the Atlanta Dream. That game is tomorrow, and it looks like Clark will not suit up. It would be wise to focus on the next game on June 14th.

If she completely recovers, Caitlin Clark will look to return to WNBA action against the New York Liberty. That game will be a test of her medical condition, and it is unlikely that the coaching staff will allow her to play a lot of minutes.

Getting a feel of competitive basketball and making a full game return against the Connecticut Sun would be the best solution. They can look at winning that game and start a run to climb the WNBA playoff ladder.
