Defending champion Bryson DeChambeau did not have the best of times during Round 1 of the U.S. Open. Following the end of the round, the LIV Golf star admitted that he was left “pretty disappointed” with the way he played in the opening round.
The Crushers GC captain entered this tournament with the aim of defending this title, which he won in dramatic fashion last year. So far his performances in the majors had been good with a T5 finish at the Masters Tournament and a second straight runner-up finish at the PGA Championship.
Things, though, did not go as he had hoped. He was one of the top names who struggled with the tough condition of the Oakmont course.
On the par-5 12th hole, he would end up making a bogey despite making it to the greens in two shots. His third shot would fly over the green. After that he would make two poor chips that derailed him on this hole. In the end, he was able to make bogey with a good putt from the fringe.

Before that, he had made another huge mistake and seemingly forgotten the rules. On the par-5 4th hole, he would miss the fairway and needed to work out his second shot from a tough situation. While he did manage that, his shot would stop at the crosswalk, which entitled him to a relief.
Instead of dropping the ball, the golfer ended up placing the ball on the ground. Fortunately, for him, a rules official intervened in this and suggested that he drop the ball. He would have been assessed with a one-stroke penalty if he did not clarify his mistake.

DeChambeau ended the day with a score of 3-over 73. Following the round, he admitted that he was disappointed with his performance and his mistakes.
Pretty disappointed with how I played. It’s not too far off. Just got to get the putting a little bit more dialed, and I’ll be right there because 3-over could have easily been 2-under today.

After his day finished up, he lamented what his round could have been without a few mistakes.
"Just didn't get anything out of it. I kept it 1-under through 7, through 8, perfect drive on 9, and this golf course can come… pic.twitter.com/axbvZaC7B2
At the moment, DeChambeau is T49 in the leaderboard alongside several top names, including World No.1 Scottie Scheffler.
Bryson DeChambeau recently spoke on his future with LIV Golf
Ahead of the U.S. Open, Bryson DeChambeau was asked about his future with LIV Golf. The 2-time major champion proceeded to make some strong comments regarding his future.

The American international is currently in the 2nd last year of his deal with LIV Golf. Next year, his contract with the Public Investment Fund (PIF) will come to and end.
With the talks of the merger and reunification of golf still going on, many have wondered where he would play in the future. For the time being, DeChambeau is optimistic about his league. In the press conference before the U.S. Open, the golfer revealed that he is looking to negotiate his deal with the league towards the end of this year.
We’re looking to negotiate end of this year, and I’m very excited. They see the value in me. I see the value in what they can provide, and I believe we’ll come to some sort of resolution on that. I’m super excited for the future. I think that LIV is not going anywhere.

Earlier this year, there had been reports that claimed that DeChambeau could be on his way out of the league. A report expressed that he and the league have failed to agree to a $280 million contract extension.
These reports were later debunked by golf insider Tom Hobbs. A few days later, the golfer himself dismissed this and expressed that he was ‘excited‘ about the future of the 54-hole circuit.
DeChambeau was one of the top PGA Tour names who left the tour to play for LIV Golf. According to reports, the 9-time PGA Tour winner joined LIV Golf for a figure worth around $125 million in 2022.
