Unlike every other driver than came into the Mexican City race weekend excited about the first international race of the Next-Gen era, Alex Bowman had a lot of concerns. He was in pain from the wild wreck he was involved in at Michigan International Speedway, that resulted in him getting a minor injury, being sour and missing out on the some much deserved fun-time in Mexico.
Alex Bowman started the weekend with a below average run that resulted in him finishing P29 in the qualifying session. It is pretty bad, considering he is a driver that always perform good in the road courses. He made an impressive comeback in the race, and finished the race at P4, behind race winner Shane van Gisbergen, Christopher Bell and Chase Elliott.
The results make him a proud of himself and the team considering he didn’t even have proper sim time. In the post-race interview, Bowman admitted that he couldn’t even walk on Wednesday, wing to the crash, and due to the recovery, he missed out on the sim sessions as well as the team meetings for the race week.
Running well probably made it easier than it could have been. Just proud of the whole team. I put us behind this week. In full transparency, I couldn’t walk on Wednesday, so I missed all my sim stuff, all my meetings. Just trying to get back going.
Alex Bowman told NBC Sports.
But his team and entourage show up to help him get over the pain fast and he was able to race in the Cup Series event and finish all the lap. His goal coming in, due to the situation, was not getting the race win, but finish all the laps and secure top-5 finish. His crew gave him a car capable enough to do it and resulted in him achieving the goal.
I had a lot of help from a lot of people to fix whatever the hell was going on, and thankfully enough, I was able to run all the laps this weekend. Honestly, my goal this weekend was just to come here and run all the laps and end up with a top five. I definitely will take it. Proud of Blake and all the guys.
Alex Bowman added.
Alex Bowman didn’t get to enjoy the Mexican trip enough
The veteran then talked about the things he missed the most with the Mexico weekend, because of the injury. He admitted that it was his first international trip and he was excited about, before the travel as well as the injury cost him.

I wish I wouldn’t’ have burned the tires off so bad at the end, but we were pretty decent. It’s been neat. I’ve never been out of the country before. Certainly, this week has been a lot. Travel for this week has been a lot with what I had going on.
Alex Bowman said.
He wanted to explore the country more, but the only thing he could do was to stay in his hotel and work on recovery. Having his girlfriend Chole besides him help him a lot, as she played a significant role in helping him recover.
I wish I could have walked around the city and enjoyed it a lot more than I did because I just laid in a hotel bed all weekend. It’s a neat spot. Have to thank my girlfriend, Chloe, for picking me up off the floor and getting me some help. Yeah, it’s been a heck of a week.
Alex Bowman added.
The comments from the No:48 Chevy driver shows he overcome a lot of struggles to secure the top 5 run on Sunday. Now a fully fit Bowman will be looking for the opportunity to build on the momentum and secure his win of the 2025 season in the coming road course race weekends.
