WWE Finally Reveals if Goldberg Is Actually Retiring After Competing at Saturday Night’s Main Event
Having started wrestling way back in 1997, Goldberg will compete in his last-ever WWE match at Saturday Night's Main Event on July 12.

Goldberg emerged on this week’s Raw as the next challenger for Gunther‘s World Heavyweight Championship. They’ll go one-on-one at Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 12 in Atlanta, Georgia. When the match was announced, the company didn’t initially clarify if it was going to be ‘Da Man’s last WWE match in conjunction with the ongoing rumors.
However, in a press release announcing the on-sale date of individual tickets for SNME and Evolution, WWE has confirmed that Goldberg will indeed set foot inside its ring for the last time next month. The 58-year-old had begun training for an in-ring return a few months ago. He’s undergone stem cell therapy and reported to the Black Diamond Martial Arts Academy in late March to get his training underway.
The former Universal Champion has yet to address his shoulder issues that’d need surgery, but Goldberg has put it on hold. Not only has his upper body drastically regressed in strength, but the lower half is allegedly in a pretty bad state too. Some fans noticed that ‘Da Man’ started limping as soon as he kicked the air while making his entrance on Raw this past Monday. It’s a clear indication that his knees aren’t in great condition either.
Individual event tickets for #SNME in Atlanta on Saturday, July 12 as well as tickets for #WWEEvolution on Sunday, July 13, will go on sale Wednesday, June 25, at 10 a.m. ET/7 a.m. PT at https://t.co/gqwBY18Zg5.

Despite his body not holding itself together as he nears his 60s, the Tulsa native brought that much-needed aggression against Gunther on the microphone. The WWE Hall of Famer reminded the Austrian of their previous interaction at Bad Blood, where the Vienna-born wrestler insulted Goldberg in front of his family. The erstwhile Walter may have started it, but the WWE legend is hellbent on ending their saga once and for all in Atlanta.
Goldberg feels honored to share the ring with Gunther
While Goldberg does intend on thrashing Gunther at Saturday Night’s Main Event, the former WCW Champion also has a feeling of honor for his opponent. Appearing on The National Football Show, the former defensive tackle for the Atlanta Falcons recalled his first meeting with the Austrian a few years ago. Goldberg said that he knew the 37-year-old was destined for bigger things in this industry.

Speaking about his upcoming clash, ‘Da Man’ took immense pride in the fact that he, at 58, is competing for the world title in his last WWE match. However, famed wrestling pundits Dave LaGreca and Bully Ray blasted the company’s way of bestowing such a gigantic title match on Goldberg. Speaking on the Busted Open Radio, LaGreca called it illogical and incomprehensible.
Goldberg says it will be an honor to step in the ring with GUNTHER for his retirement match:

Meanwhile, on the other hand, Ray affirmed that WWE could’ve let Gunther say out loud that he was throwing down an open challenge to anyone back there in the locker room. Or else, ‘Da Man’ could’ve intimidated the WWE officials like Nick Aldis for the latter to acquiesce to the SNME bout.
Gunther sparing three minutes for Goldberg might be enough
It doesn’t seem like Gunther is ruffled by Goldberg’s warning on Raw. ‘The Ring General’ took to Instagram and posted a picture of their confrontation. The caption, however, was the most interesting part. The World Heavyweight Champion said that he could spare three minutes for ‘The Icon.’

The dig was aimed at Goldberg’s incompetency to wrestle longer matches at this phase of his career. Who knows if Gunther vs. Goldberg ends up being a sub-3-minute match? The majority of fans are expecting the former Imperium leader to steamroll his competition.
Gunther recently dethroned Jey Uso to become a two-time world champion. It was noted that WWE decided to take the title belt off Uso so that the company could book the former NXT UK Champion against Goldberg in his retirement match. ‘The Yeet Master’s father, Rikishi, as expected, has slammed WWE for abruptly ending his son’s title reign.
