Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and his OKC teammates delivered the first major professional sports championship in Oklahoma City’s history. They were the best team in the NBA all season long and completed their mission by winning the 2025 title.

They took advantage of Tyrese Haliburton‘s injury to build a lead in the 3rd quarter. Then on, they were coasting away even though the Indiana Pacers tried their best to reduce the deficit and take back the lead.

However, OKC, whose defense has been exemplary all season long, thwarted any attempts by the Pacers and ensured they would be the first among the two NBA Finals opponents to deliver a championship to their city.

It was the perfect ending for their passionate fans who packed Paycom Center and wore their blue t-shirts to support their players. However, amid the sea of blue, there were a few yellow t-shirt-clad Indiana Pacers fans.

When Haliburton ended his NBA Finals early in the 1st quarter, they were distraught. However, they did not leave the arena and waited to see if their team could stage a comeback. That did not happen, and they had to leave for home empty-handed.

If that disappointment was not enough, some OKC fans decided to pile on the misery. A video went viral showing a young boy and his mother leaving Paycom Center. But a group of OKC fans followed them and taunted them every step of the way.

Two OKC fans tried to bump the boy, and one stopped them in their tracks to continue harassing them. Only after the boy screamed at the top of his lungs did the OKC fans give way. This incident caught the attention of basketball fans.

Fans fume at OKC fans for harassing Pacers supporters

Basketball fans watching this video were disgusted by the actions of the OKC supporters. They questioned if it was necessary to rub salt into the wounds of the Indiana Pacers fans in the manner that they did. New York Knicks fans have been known to bully their opponents’ supporters.

Basketball aficionados believe OKC fans got what they wanted in the form of the 2025 NBA title. Taunting and harassing their opponents’ supporters, who just endured a disappointing end to their season, was not in the spirit of sports. Check out examples of such reactions below.

In the spirit of competitive sports, it is normal for fans to taunt their rivals. However, there was nothing sportsmanlike with the way these OKC fans treated the mother and son Pacers supporters. Several Thunder supporters condemned the acts of those in that video, and some even tagged the Oklahoma City Police Department to draw their attention.

OKC championship parade set for later today

After winning the 2025 NBA title, the Thunder are preparing for the first-ever professional sports championship parade in Oklahoma City. Their parade buses were already prepped and ready before Game 7 started.

However, the rest of the city will be preparing for the parade to take place later today. Officials from all departments have prepared the route for the parade that will start at Paycom Center at 11:30 a.m. ET. Then the parade will go across town and culminate at Scissortail Park.

Before the parade, the players and team personnel will take part in an event, much like the Boston Celtics did last season, that will not be available to the public. The public, however, can be a part of the closing program planned at Scissortail Park once the parade is over. All events will be televised.
