Any doubts about tension between Coco Gauff and Aryna Sabalenka after their French Open final were put to rest on Friday. The two players were seen dancing together at Wimbledon and shared clips on social media. They also practiced together on Centre Court ahead of the tournament’s start.

Just three weeks earlier, Gauff had defeated Sabalenka in the French Open final with a three-set comeback. After the match, Sabalenka faced backlash for comments suggesting Gauff didn’t win due to exceptional play but rather due to her own mistakes. Her words sparked debate among fans and analysts.

Later, Sabalenka admitted her remarks were “unprofessional.” She said she reached out to Gauff with an apology. This gesture helped clear the air between the two, showing mutual respect despite their fierce competition on court.

Sabalenka has three Grand Slam titles to her name. Gauff won both of her majors with Sabalenka as the runner-up. At Wimbledon this year, they are on opposite sides of the draw and can only meet in the final scheduled for July 12.

Coco Gauff’s Wimbledon path revealed

Tournament organizers revealed the Wimbledon singles draw on Friday morning, sparking excitement among tennis fans. Many quickly examined the brackets to see where their favorite players landed. American fans were especially focused on Coco Gauff, currently ranked World No. 2 in the WTA. Unfortunately, her path to the title appears difficult.

Gauff begins her campaign against Dayana Yastremska, a player she has defeated in all three of their previous meetings. In the second round, she could face either Victoria Azarenka, who holds a 1-0 record against Gauff, or Anastasia Zakharova, whom Gauff has never played before. These early rounds already present tough challenges.

The third round may bring a match against 28th-seed Sofia Kenin, Taylor Townsend, or Jessica Bouzas Maneiro. Gauff holds a narrow 3-2 edge over Kenin but has lost her only match against Townsend. She has yet to compete against Bouzas Maneiro. The competition continues to intensify as she moves forward.

In the fourth round, possible opponents include 16-seed Daria Kasatkina, against whom Gauff is winless in three attempts, or 19-seed Liudmila Samsonova, whom Gauff has beaten three times. Potential quarterfinal foes include Iga Swiatek, Elina Svitolina, Elena Rybakina, Clara Tauson, or Marta Kostyuk.

If Gauff reaches the semifinals, she might face Jessica Pegula, Mirra Andreeva, Emma Navarro, Diana Shnaider, or Barbora Krejcikova. A finals appearance could set up a clash with Aryna Sabalenka, Jasmine Paolini, Qinwen Zheng, or Madison Keys.

Aryna Sabalenka’s Wimbledon first-round opponent revealed

World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka will begin her Wimbledon run against Canadian qualifier Carson Branstine. Meanwhile, second seed Coco Gauff is set to open against Ukraine’s Dayana Yastremska. Both top seeds face early tests as they begin their campaigns for the title.

Barbora Krejčíková, the defending champion and seeded 17th, will take on Alexandra Eala from the Philippines in the first round. Third seed Jessica Pegula starts her tournament against Italian qualifier Elisabetta Cocciaretto. Fourth seed Jasmine Paolini, last year’s finalist, opens against Latvia’s Anastasija Sevastova.

If the draw holds, Sabalenka and Paolini could meet in the semifinals. On the other side, Gauff may face fellow American Pegula in a possible semifinal showdown. These matchups set the stage for a dramatic second week at the All England Club.

British No. 1 Emma Raducanu also has a compelling start. She will face Mingge Xu, a young wildcard and fellow Brit. Xu is one of three British teenage wildcards included in this year’s tournament.
