There is a huge difference in Steve Kerr‘s Golden State Warriors of this decade and those of the previous decade. The one now seems to have cooled off, but the one from the previous decade ruled the NBA for consecutive years, showcasing their dominance in the sport. Led by Stephen Curry, the Warriors were ruthless back then(2014-2019).
Now, former Warriors man DeMarcus Cousins made a recent appearance on the Run Your Race Podcast. On the podcast, Cousins spoke about various matters in and around the NBA and the Warriors. The one topic that stood out was how disrespectful the Prime Warriors side was. While playing for the Warriors in 2018–19, Cousins disclosed that head coach Steve Kerr would reprimand the players for showing disdain for the competition.
It was so bad, bro. Steve used to be like, ‘Man, y’all are being disrespectful.’ It was times we going out there [for warmups] with like 6 minutes on the clock. Steve like, ‘You guys gotta show some type of respect.’

According to host Theo Pinson, teams often start their warm-ups with roughly 20 minutes remaining. However, the Warriors would arrive much later because they were so sure they would win. Although the visuals weren’t the best, it might be challenging to take the game too seriously when your team includes players like Draymond Green, Klay Thompson, Kevin Durant, and Curry.
In addition to being the two-time reigning champs at the time, that Warriors team was simply too talented. The Warriors’ 73-9 record in the 2015–16 season set a new NBA record, meaning the other teams in the league could bid adieu to their hopes of winning a championship. This came after they made a shocking trade acquisition of Durant.
With a regular season record of 67-15 and a playoff record of 16-1, the Warriors dominated the competition in 2016–17. In the 2018 postseason, Golden State ultimately won despite some opposition from the Houston Rockets. Curry and Co. dominated the league for quite some time, showcasing the world how good of a team the Warriors were in their prime.
Stephen Curry’s dad, Dell Curry, made an important admission regarding his son’s future
Stephen Curry had his eyes set on the 5th NBA ring going into the 2024-25 NBA season. To this day, Curry hopes to win the 5th ring in his career before calling it quits. Maybe that is one of the reasons he is still playing in the NBA for the Warriors side. Most recently, his dad, Dell Curry, made an important admission regarding his future.
I think it’ll be his decision when to walk away. A lot of guys play until the teams or the league tell you, ‘We can’t use your services anymore.’ I think he could be well into his 40s because he can shoot the ball and requires that you have to guard him. That’ll create space for other players on the floor, so I think that decision will be totally up to him.
Dell Curry told Profootballnetwork

Over the past ten and a half years, Curry has thrived as one of the sport’s faces, winning four league titles and two NBA MVP awards. Curry played for the Golden State Warriors throughout his future Hall of Fame career. In addition, the Warriors star has also clearly indicated his decision to end his career with the Warriors in the past.
Warriors GM shared his views on his HC Steve Kerr’s contract extension
Heading into the 2025-26 NBA season, the Golden State Warriors’ HC Steve Kerr will be determined to win the NBA title with his side. Why? because the upcoming season may be Kerr’s last season with the Dubs as his contract expires in 2026. Notably, Mike Dunleavy, the general manager of the Warriors, recently stated the precarious situation.
He stated that he hoped to keep Kerr, but he respected the coach’s right to make his own selections going forward.
On a personal level, I’d love to have Steve locked in and know the certainty of that, because he’s such a great coach for our organization, for our team. But also, with Steve, like he’s earned that right at his age, all that he’s accomplished. Not going to push him into anything.

By the looks of it, it does not seem Kerr would leave the Warriors so soon. Especially with the Warriors still in the rebuilding process. With Jimmy Butler, Draymond Green, and Curry as pillars, the Warriors are still constructing around their aging roster. This choice demonstrates their resolve to make the most of their championship core’s remaining years.
