Angel Reese is not the lone basketball star in her family. Her mother, Angel Webb Reese, was a college basketball star. Having such a parent in the household, the Chicago Sky star played along with her younger brother, Julian Reese.
The 23-year-old was a step above both her mother as well as her brother. She was heavily recruited out of high school and received 24 Division 1 offers. ESPN ranked her as the 2nd-best player in their 2020 recruiting analysis, two spots higher than eventual rival Caitlin Clark.
Even though she lost ground compared to Clark, fellow top 10 recruits Paige Bueckers, Cameron Brink, and Sky teammates Kamilla Cardoso and Hailey Van Lith, she has become one of the better young players since coming into the WNBA.
Reese hopes her brother, Julian Reese does the same for his basketball career. Her brother played 4 seasons with the Maryland Terrapins and was invited by the Los Angeles Lakers to join their training camp roster. Once news of this broker, his sister wrote this on X:
OPPORTUNITY. COME ON JU.

Angel Reese knows her brother’s college resume might not scream star player. However, now that he has received an opportunity, she wants Julian Reese to take full advantage and prove that he belongs in the NBA. All he needs to do is to impress, and he could have a job playing alongside LeBron James.
If selected, Angel Reese’s brother could earn double her entire rookie contract
Julian Reese will have time until the end of the NBA Summer Camp to prove his worth. He will be playing alongside LeBron James’ son, Bronny James, as part of the Los Angeles Lakers’ summer camp roster. If he can show coaches and team executives his value, he could at least land a two-way contract.
A typical two-way contract in the NBA nets the player half of the rookie minimum. In 2024-25, that amount was $578,577. Assuming this amount will rise proportionately to the salary cap of the upcoming season, a Julian Reese could earn around $600,000 from his two-way contract.
If that were to happen, he would earn twice as much as his sister, Angel Reese’s entire 4-year rookie scale contract. She, along with others, has made it clear how paltry their salaries in the WNBA are. Such comparative figures make it ever so clear how much the gap is in pay.
If her brother happens to do well enough to earn a full-season rookie contract, he will earn at least $1.2 million. Even without any endorsements or additional income streams, the NBA vs WNBA pay gap can help Julian Reese amass more wealth than her superstar sister.
Angel Reese notched another double-double in loss
Angel Reese and her Chicago Sky won their previous game against the Los Angeles Sparks. In that game, she and her fellow draftee, Kamilla Cardoso, dominated the interior. In their latest game against the Golden State Valkyries, Cardoso was not available.

Since she took a break to represent Brazil in the AmeriCup, the Sky had to start with Reese as their primary big. That plan did not work against the Golden State Valkyries, who are known to be relentless on the glass.
If not for Reese’s 18 rebounds, her Sky could not have kept pace with the Valkyries’ 42 total rebounds. The home team used that, along with their momentum, to edge the Sky. Reese and her teammates tried to get the lead back, but the Valkyries held on.
The 23-year-old LSU alum grabbed rebounds towards the end and scored to close the gap. However, it was too late, as the home team used late fouls to garner free throws, cementing the win 83-78. The Sky will continue staying on the West Coast and will again face the Sparks.
