The NBA has already seen its fair share of trades unfold as it enters the offseason. Veterans like Kevin Durant and Jrue Holiday have already been traded to different NBA franchises. It’s safe to say the hype has not gone low; instead, the NBA world recently witnessed another shocking deal. According to an ESPN report on Saturday, the Chicago Bulls are dealing Lonzo Ball to the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for Isaac Okoro.
Only once the NBA’s prohibition expires on July 6 will the transaction become official. Ball, who was selected to the All-Rookie Second Team in 2018, is returning after missing more than two seasons due to surgery on his left knee. He made a comeback in 2024–25, playing in 35 games and making 14 starts.

After two surgeries failed to repair an injury he had during his first season with Chicago in 2021–2022, the 27-year-old Ball had a meniscus and cartilage transplant in March 2023. Before the most recent trade deadline, the Chicago Bulls were reportedly among the top sellers.
Although Zach LaVine was cut by the organization, there were a lot of speculations circulating about Nikola Vucevic, Lonzo Ball, and even Coby White. Now, Ball has finally been traded to the Cavs, sending the NBA community into a frenzy. Ball joining the Cavs makes them serious contenders for the NBA title once again.
It’s important to note that the Cavs finished as the #1st seed in the Eastern Conference this past season but fell short to the Indiana Pacers in the NBA Playoffs. Adding Ball gives them a different dimension in their roster. It will be interesting to watch how the Cavs perform in the upcoming 2025-26 NBA season.
Fans left stunned after coming across Lonzo Ball-Cleveland Cavaliers trade deal
Lonzo Ball produced 7.6 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 3.3 assists in the previous campaign. The 27-year-old has played in 287 games (253 starts) with the Los Angeles Lakers (2017–19), New Orleans Pelicans (2019–21), and the Bulls, averaging 11.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 5.8 assists overall. Now, he is being traded to the Cavs, sending the NBA fans into shock.
The majority of the NBA fanbase did not waste time to troll the Bulls’ front office, mainly because losing a player of the calibre of Ball did not sit well with many Bulls fans. Many took to various social media apps and sites to put forward their views and thoughts on this matter. One fan wrote on X, “Being a Bulls fan is the worst.” Check out some of the reactions below:

As for the Cavs-Ball deal, with Ty Jerome becoming an unrestricted free agent and Darius Garland probably missing the start of the regular season due to surgery on his left big toe earlier this month, Cleveland needs a point guard. On the other hand, the move makes some sense for the Bulls. Okoro appears to be far more dependable than Lonzo Ball, even though he didn’t have the finest season the previous year.
A deeper look into the Lonzo Ball- Cleveland Cavaliers trade deal
Before free agency, the Bulls traded guard Lonzo Ball to the Cavaliers in a one-for-one deal, giving the former No. 2 selection a new beginning following his incredible recovery from a chronic knee injury. Shams Charania of ESPN was the first to report on the transaction.
Isaac Okoro, a former No. 5 pick, was traded to the Bulls by the Cavaliers, ending their relationship with a player who showed promise on defense but never made anything offensively. Despite starting most of the games over his five seasons in Cleveland, Okoro’s importance diminished in 2024–25.

While Ball is expected to cost the Cavaliers $10 million in 2025–2026, he might be cut free after the season if Cleveland rejects his team option. Okoro has a contract that will keep him for two more seasons with a cap hit of almost $11 million.
Ball’s fitness is far from assured, so the Cavaliers will probably need to exercise caution with him. However, the trade allows the former No. 2 selection to play a significant role for an opponent after being out of the game for so long.
