LeBron James and Dwyane Wade will always be remembered as part of Miami Heat history. Together with Chris Bosh, they produced an era of dominance that saw Miami franchise win two titles and advance to four straight NBA Finals between 2011 and 2014. Most recently, Wade dropped the hammer on his teammate regarding his ‘greatness’ for the Heat.

In the recent segment of his podcast (Wy Network), Wade touched upon many topics around the NBA. One topic in particular was regarding the Kevin Durant trade deal to the Houston Rockets. Before that, Durant was also in negotiations with the Heat, which broke down eventually. After this, Wade claimed that nobody can ever be as great as LeBron James for the Heat.

In short, Wade termed LeBron James as the ‘greatest’ player to play for the Heat. He also had a proper explanation regarding his take on this matter.

If you want to be honest, LeBron James is the greatest player to ever put a Miami Heat jersey on…I’m the greatest player in the history of the Miami Heat, with the body of work that I had wearing that jersey. But I’m not the greatest player ever to put on a Miami Heat jersey.

While it may seem astronomical to some, it isn’t. James, along with Wade and Chirs Bosch, had one of the most dominating runs for the Heat in the NBA during the 2010s. They brought Heat back on the map by winning two titles in their presence. However, it was James who first opted to leave the franchise and join the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2014.

Despite standouts like Shaquille O’Neal and Jimmy Butler featuring for the Heat, Wade chose his former teammate in James. This also sends a clear message of how highly Wade rates James in the sport. Over his time with the Heat, LeBron James has averaged 26.9 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 6.7 assists in 294 games.

At that time, James’ numbers were on a different level, dominating the league in style. James averaged 24.7 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 6.4 assists in 23 NBA Finals games for the Heat. With James playing a key part and winning the NBA Finals MVP in both championship runs, the Heat won two NBA titles in 2012 and 2013.

Dwyane Wade on the Heat-Kevin Durant deal

For months, the Kevin Durant trade news was circulating in and around the NBA, with many teams interested for him. One of them was the Miami Heat. However, Durant was traded to the Houston Rockets a few days ago, putting an end to the speculations. The Heat reportedly failed to provide them with the appropriate package.

But according to Heat icon Dwyane Wade, Kevin Durant would not have traveled to Miami in the first place. He believes there is a mismatch between the athlete and the organization.

Bron went to Miami, he’s (Kevin Durant) not going to Miami. I said this 10 years ago when the Heat were trying to get him then, UD said this on his show as well. He’s not following LeBron. Why are we recruiting somebody who’s not doing that? I didn’t like it then, and I don’t like it now. I’m glad he’s in Houston. That ain’t it.

Wade wants the front management to take action, even though he did not want Durant on the Heat. The 2024–25 season was difficult for the Heat, as they also had to cope with Jimmy Butler’s drama. The Heat didn’t have the ideal season, but if they take action, things could get better.

Fox Sports analyst once claimed that LeBron James joined the Heat to win rings

LeBron James appeared to have send shockwaves across the NBA media scene a few days ago.
In a brief statement, the 40-year-old all-time great and four-time NBA champion addressed the basketball community’s fixation with “ring culture.”

James argued that it shouldn’t be the key to honor excellence. This is the exact reason Fox Sports analyst Colin Cowherd blasted him for stating that he joined the Miami Heat to ‘win rings.’

He spent his entire career pursuing titles. You think he went to Miami to lay on the beach? He went there for (Pat) Riley, and (Erik) Spoelstra, and better owner and a better roster.

Colin Cowherd said on The Herd

Furthermore, Cowherd argued that James’ choice to leave the Cleveland Cavaliers and join the Heat was motivated by his desire to win the Larry O’Brien trophy more than once, which he achieved with the team in 2012 and 2013.
