Ahead of UFC 317, former lightweight champion and fan favorite Charles Oliveira wanted to get his hands on the title for the second time. Despite being the underdog fighter, ‘Do Bronx’ didn’t care and showed incredible confidence during the highly anticipated event. However, during the fight, nothing worked for him at all as he got knocked out immediately by Ilia Topuria’s powerful punches.

Known for his accurate predictions, Topuria boldly claimed Oliveira is a quitter and would get knocked out in the first round. As predicted by Topuria himself, in the third minute, the Georgian-Spanish fighter landed a nasty combination that completely flatlined Oliveira. Following the brutal loss, the Brazilian refused to give any post-fight interviews but addressed his loyal fans through a short X post.

My apologies.

Oliveira is so loved because of his exciting fighting style, humble attitude, and incredible comeback story that deeply inspires fans worldwide. Fans supported Oliveira again despite the odds because they believed in his heart, resilience, and ability to overcome tough challenges. They were extremely disappointed by the loss and felt heartbroken as their beloved fighter was brutally knocked out.

On the other hand, Topuria has now impressively knocked out three veterans, Alexander Volkanovski, Max Holloway, and Oliveira. At just 28 years old, Topuria has already captured two prestigious UFC belts and could soon be pushing for a third championship. Despite his remarkable achievements and trash-talking personality, ‘El Matador’ remained humble and shared thoughtful opinions during the post-fight press conference.

I am not invincible. Quite the contrary. I feel that I’m beatable, and that’s why I work so hard. I put so much dedication. And that’s why I do the work that I do, and I don’t want to leave anything out there. And the work is so well done that I feel that there’s no doubt left. And that’s why I celebrate things the night before, because I feel that the victory is built and should be celebrated at the end of camp.

With the win, Topuria has now become the new king of the most competitive division in UFC history. As expected, other top lightweight contenders such as Paddy Pimblett, Arman Tsarukyan and Justin Gaethje were present inside the arena. However, after his dominating win over Oliveira, it won’t be surprising to see him being the betting favorite to beat anybody in the 155-lbs division.

After his victory, Ilia Topuria confidently called out all the top contenders present inside the T-Mobile Arena at UFC 317. Among them, Paddy Pimblett received the chance to face off against Topuria, fueled by their long-standing rivalry and personal bad blood. Topuria aggressively shoved the UK native and boldly promised to submit him in their potential UFC title clash.

Top contender Arman Tsarukyan was also present there, who made weight a few days back as the back-up fighter. However, Topuria had previously mocked him, which developed into a full-fledged rivalry. During a post-fight interview, the ‘El Matador’ made fun of the Armenian’s viral reaction to his brutal knockout.

He looked scared. He had a look of shock on his face when he saw the knockout. He was like, ‘I was going to be the replacement for this fight, thank God nothing happened to Charles because this could’ve been me.’ He always makes weight when he knows he’s not going to fight.

Exciting times are ahead in the lightweight division moving forward. Nevertheless, UFC CEO Dana White didn’t appreciate Pimblett going inside the octagon and facing off against Topuria. He was also doubtful about Tsarukyan’s chances of fighting for the title next. With several doubts, it would be interesting to see what’s next for the newly crowned lightweight champion.
