Fans and most of the media analysts believe Caitlin Clark is the sole needle-mover responsible for the unreal growth the WNBA is experiencing. Her ability to draw fans anywhere through her electric performances and humble nature is second to none.

In 2024, she helped the WNBA surpass all other major brands in terms of growth. This season, teams have been scrambling to cater to the increasing demand for tickets to watch her. It is the first time in a while that most of the games are to be held in NBA-sized venues.

It is also the first time that most of the games received national broadcast slots. Along with the increased revenue and overall impact of all the eyes falling on the league, it has also helped her peers gain endorsements, social media followers, etc.

This season, her play has been lackluster off late, but prior to that, she was electrifying the league. Triple double’s, logo shot after logo shot etc. she was helping the team win, despite their difficulties figuring out their chemistry.

Despite that, her peers ranked her 9th among all guards in the league. Per the latest press release from the league, the only reason she became an All-Star starter was because the media voted her third best guard.

Her massive fan following helped her break voting records and force the league into making her the East’s captain. If not, it is possible she would have been a reserve at best. But what baffled the minds of fans was how her peers did not believe she was good enough to be a starter.

Fans take their wrath out on Caitlin Clark’s peers

Among all the guards being voted, WNBA players rightfully voted some players as per their performances. However, fans believe they missed the mark when it came to Sabrina Ionescu, who was ranked second among guards despite others having a better campaign this season.

However, fans could not understand how players believed Caitlin Clark was having a poorer season than her teammate Kelsey Mitchell. They believe this is further proof that WNBA players are jealous of the Fever guard’s fame and success off the court. Check out examples of their infuriated responses below:

This harks back to the time when Charles Barkley and LeBron James slammed players for questioning Caitlin Clark’s credentials with respect to her game. They believed for someone who was moving the needle, and was exemplary on the court, this reeked of petty jealousy.

Now fans are convinced that jealousy is widespread amongst the WNBA. Their voting debunked their own claims of not being ticked off by the massive fame the Iowa native was enjoying. Fans believe this is bad for the league as they are trying to use Clark’s fame to grow.

Caitlin Clark’s Kobe Bryant PEs sell out in minutes

There are already enough instances of how Caitlin Clark’s fame impacts herself, the Indiana Fever, as well as the WNBA. Merchandise sales are through the roof, and the impact has spread to other players and teams.

The 23-year-old’s signature Wilson basketballs sell out faster than the company can restock. A similar situation played out for Nike, who saw her custom Indiana Fever colorway of the Kobe Bryant 5 Proto’s sell out in a few minutes.

Fans are now waiting to see when the sneaker giant replenishes stock. For those who are impatient, there is a steep price to pay. Some of the pairs have popped up on resale markets where sellers are asking for $350.

That is a near two fold increase in its original price of $190. This is a player exclusive, but not a signature sneaker. The $190 price is already much higher than A’ja Wilson‘s A’One signature shoes that launched at $110.

If this is the response Nike gets with just a player exclusive, it should give them a good enough idea of what they have missed out for so long delaying her signature line. Fans have been demanding for a Caitlin Clark signature sneaker ever since she set records in college.
