Andy Murray and Carlos Alcaraz engaged in a ‘war’ of words on X after the latter talked about playing golf with Sergio Garcia during his on-court interview following his straight-set win over Jiri Lehecka in the US Open quarterfinals. Garcia was in the stands of Arthur Ashe Stadium watching Alcaraz book a spot in the US Open semifinal for the third time in his career.
During his on-court interview, the 22-year-old said Garcia had to give him a 15-shot lead. But Murray thought the tally needed to be 25 because he beat the youngster when they played golf during Wimbledon this season.
I gave him about 12 shots and smoked him so I’d imagine Sergio would need to give him 25.
Andy Murray wrote on X
Alcaraz noticed Murray’s tweet and snapped back. He also pulled Murray’s legs, saying the Brit only won because they played as a team.
You only beat me because your partner was good! You brave enough to play me at singles?

Murray, who has changed his X bio to “I played tennis. I now play golf,” and also his cover photo to a golf course, has played pro-am tournaments after hanging up his racket at the 2024 Paris Olympics. In his first golf match against the five-time Grand Slam champion, he emerged as the winner but was defeated the next time they faced off. But later, they played a deciding match, which Alcaraz lost, joking that he let Murray win as “it would be really bad for him” if he lost at his home.
Carlos Alcaraz sends revenge warning to Novak Djokovic
To reach his second US Open final, Carlos Alcaraz has to overcome a huge obstacle in the form of none other than Novak Djokovic. The Serb reached the semifinal- also his fourth in Majors this season- after knocking out last year’s US Open runner-up Taylor Fritz in four sets.

Novak, we all know Novak’s game… It doesn’t matter that he has been out of the Tour since Wimbledon… Playing great matches here. I know he’s hungry. I know his ambition for more, so let’s see.
Carlos Alcaraz said at the press conference
Alcaraz will be meeting the 24-time Grand Slam champion for the ninth time. Although he trails 3-5 in the head-to-head matchups, he will be entering the match with a slight edge because of his age. Alcaraz is seeking revenge because it was Djokovic who stopped him from winning the gold medal at the Paris Olympics last year. Djokovic also spoiled his Career Grand Slam plan with a four-set win in the Australian Open quarterfinal this year.
I know I played a lot of times against him. I really want revenge. That’s obvious.
Carlos Alcaraz added
Alcaraz is bidding to double his Grand Slam tally this season as he defended his French Open crown by defeating his arch-rival Jannik Sinner, against whom he lost when they met in the Wimbledon final. It was Sinner who stopped Djokovic from reaching the French Open and Wimbledon finals, with three-set wins in the semifinals both times.
Alcaraz will dethrone defending champion Sinner if he wins the US Open or has a better campaign. Djokovic has already reached the No.4 spot once again and will remove Alexander Zverev from the third spot if he wins the tournament. The winner of the Djokovic-Alcaraz clash will face Sinner or Felix Auger-Aliassime in the championship clash.
Sinner is eying a triple Grand Slam win in a season, while Djokovic last clinched a Major here back in 2023 by defeating Daniil Medvedev. The 38-year-old clinched only the Geneva Open this year, while Sinner and Alcaraz have won two and six titles, respectively.
