Emma Raducanu’s former coach, Mark Petchey, has listed out the major things the 22-year-old must face in the remainder of the season. The British star has been in superb form and playing her best on the court the last few months on tour, but has yet to cement her place in the top 30 of the WTA rankings.
Raducanu has had the most productive season of her career in 2025. She has entered 19 tournaments this season, including the ongoing Korean Open. She has also played in 44 matches and holds a 26-18 win-loss record on tour, following her remarkable run in the Citi Open and Miami Open.
This is the first time in Raducanu’s career that she has won at least one match at all four Grand Slams this season. Her best run in the major tournaments was reaching the third round of the Australian Open, Wimbledon Championships, and the US Open. Also, all the losses at Grand Slam events came against top 10 opponents, including Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek.
Raducanu started the year at World No.60 in the WTA rankings and has climbed up to No.33. Being an unseeded player at Grand Slam events has made the former World No.10 face top players early in the draw.
However, Raducanu doesn’t have too many points to defend during the rest of the year, which gives opportunities to earn points. Her former coach Petchey revealed during an interview with BetVictor that Raducanu’s goal should be getting into the top 25 of the WTA rankings before the end of the season:
If I was Emma, I’d have like three targets. Number one would be to get inside the top 32. I don’t think that you need to be anything more than that. I think it needs to be inside 32 to be seeded for the Australian Open at the back end of the Asian swing. That would be the goal. So, whether that’s 25 or comfortably inside, don’t have to stress, know you’re going to be seeded. A seeding of around 25 will be better than 28 to 32.
Raducanu’s last match on tour was at the US Open, where she was seeking to win the title for the second time. But she fell in the third round against Elena Rybakina in straight sets. It was her second consecutive loss against a top 10 player, just weeks after losing to Aryna Sabalenka in the third round of the Cincinnati Open.
Emma Raducanu told to be impactful on the court by a former British Player
Emma Raducanu only had one memorable run in the WTA, and that came at the 2021 US Open, where she stunned the tennis world by winning her first career Grand Slam. Since then, she has struggled to reach those heights on tour. Nonetheless, her lack of a consistent coach and injuries are the major reasons for her struggles.

During the aforementioned interview, Mark Petchey revealed that Raducanu’s second goal this season must be to make an impact on the court. The British coach pointed out that she needs to consistently beat lower-ranked players and players ranked above her in tournaments:
Number two goal is obviously to feel that your game can be more impactful, more often. She’s obviously been taking care of the players that she knows she can beat and some of the players that were ranked ahead of her. But obviously she will look to be more impactful.
Raducanu is set to begin her Asian swing campaign at the Korean Open against Jaqueline Cristian. The 8th seed is projected to face the top seed and World No.2 Iga Swiatek in the quarter-finals of the tournament. Raducanu reached the last eight of the Korean Open last year before retiring against Daria Kasatkina.
