The 2026 tennis season will start next week. Novak Djokovic will be in action at the Adelaide International, scheduled to start on January 12. It will be the third time the Serb will compete in the ATP 250 event, having played before in 2007 and 2023, winning both times.
After the Adelaide International, his focus will shift toward the first Major of the season- the Australian Open. Djokovic, if not the heavy favorite, is still a contender for the first Major of the season.
The last time he won the title here was in 2023 by defeating Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas. Last year, eventual champion Jannik Sinner knocked him out in four sets in the semifinals, while this year, a hamstring injury led to his withdrawal from the last four against eventual runner-up Alexander Zverev.
In the Major Down Under, Djokovic will be chasing his 11th title as well as his record-extending 25th Grand Slam title. Amidst the excitement for the next season, Lacoste did something that did not go down well with the Nole fans.
The French fashion brand, which signed the sponsorship deal with Djokovic in 2017, has designed a rather ‘plain’ outfit for him for the Australian Open. Djokovic will be donning a green T-shirt and navy blue shorts.
Fans call out Lacoste’s kit for Novak Djokovic for the Australian Open
When Lacoste shared the photos of the kit, it received negative responses from Novak Djokovic‘s fans. They think someone like Djokovic, the 24-time Grand Slam champion, deserves something better, while some fans believe the kit instead looks like the one World No.2 Jannik Sinner wore during this year’s French Open.

I'm a fan of Lacoste, but for real, @Lacoste guys, is this some kind of a joke?

Anyway, I don't like it. It looks cheap. Lacoste can do better than that. 🤷🏻♀️

Fans even slammed Nike for Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz‘s Australian Open outfits. Sinner will be wearing a yellow and white kit, while Alcaraz’s has a combination of light green, black, and white colors.
Novak Djokovic opens up about retirement plans
Djokovic recently attended the World Sports Summit in Dubai, during which, among other things, he discussed his retirement plans. The 38-year-old reiterated that he intends to play till the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, all thanks to his passion for tennis.

I do want to keep on going. I said LA Olympics, 2028, is kind of a guiding star, but honestly, there’s no limit. So let’s see, you know what I mean? I just keep going. I love hitting the tennis ball, and I love competing. I was saying to the guys that I was talking to, the greats in football, that it’s really about passion and love. As long as you really feel like you’re playing on a high level and your body holds on, why not?
Djokovic has one Olympic gold medal to his name. Last year, he defeated Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets in the Paris Olympics final. Djokovic considers that win the best achievement of his career.
This year, he reached three finals. Although Jakub Mensik did not allow him to end his Big Title drought at the Miami Open, Djokovic added two ATP 250 titles to his trophy cabinet. He lifted the Geneva Open by defeating Hubert Hurkacz, and later in his last tournament of the season, at the Hellenic Championship, he went past Lorenzo Musetti.
The win in Geneva made Djokovic the third man in the Open Era to win 100 or more tour-level titles, following Roger Federer and Jimmy Connors. Just like last year, Djokovic skipped the ATP Finals. The two wins helped the former World No.1 finish the season in the fourth spot on the rankings table. In the four Grand Slam events this year, Djokovic made the semifinals.
