Stephen A. Smith has been working hard to strike a fine balance, sharing his time covering sports, as well as politics, as he looks to continue seeking his prospects as a potential future presidential candidate.

He has been one of the few who tend to strike down the middle when it comes to talking about topics that have become a sore point of discussion in the country.

Be it taking shots at President Donald Trump for removing the great Jackie Robinson‘s credentials from the Department of Defense website as part of their steps to uproot DEI moves.

Or when Smith slammed Democrats for fighting the 2024 presidential elections without a proper agenda to resolve the problems that everyday folk suffered.

Holding on to his neutral stance, the ESPN executive producer took to his namesake podcast to discuss the recent incident at Minneapolis, where an ICE agent shot and killed a protester.

At some point in time, you gotta ask yourself what damn country do you want to live in?… He moves out the way, and draws his gun, and shoots through the front windshield, and took her out. It wasn’t necessary. You could’ve arrested her, you could’ve spared the woman’s life. You didn’t have to kill her.

Stephen A. Smith said

Stephen A. Smith admitted that the woman was unlawfully blocking ICE agents. However, he wondered why they did not follow the usual protocol used to defuse or detain a citizen. Instead, the officer in question’s trigger-happy fingers led to the death of a mother.

Stephen A. Smith believes law enforcement has become lawless

While continuing to talk about the Minneapolis ICE shooting that killed 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good, Stephen A. Smith then talked about how lawlessness is no longer restricted to criminals.

We are living in a country where some people more often than not are becoming lawless. And law enforcement officials are not just about enforcing the law while serving and protecting. But they are also taking lives. At least in this case, that was the case. I believe it was totally unnecessary.

Stephen A. Smith said

He reiterated that the concerned ICE officials could have shot the vehicle’s tires or pursued her down the road with the plethora of vehicles they had at their disposal.

Stephen A. Smith believes this was reckless behavior, both on the slain woman’s part and the ICE officer who felt it was all right to pull a gun and fire off shots.

The 58-year-old did on both sides when saying this, suggesting that the lawlessness from government officers is an indication of how the current Donald Trump regime is running the country.

Stephen A. Smith believes America is in trouble

With this incident starting a political firestorm, Stephen A. Smith gave a neutral opinion on how he felt the situation should have unfolded. It seems that with his recent inclination to run for President, the basketball analyst believes the country needs a reset.

If somebody came to me and said, ‘You’ve got a legitimate shot to win,’ or whatever, I would definitely consider it… I think our country is in trouble. There’s too many people that are thinking about themselves, and not thinking about the American citizen. I don’t think there are enough people who are legitimately being called out.

Stephen A. Smith said on the PBD Podcast

Smith reiterated that if he believes he has a legitimate shot to become the President, he will contest the 2028 elections. That is because he feels many in this country need to be called out for their selfish actions.
