Former NBA player Kenyon Martin has always been known for never shying away from speaking his mind. He is one of the realest athletes out there. Since his retirement from basketball in 2015, Martin is often seen on Underdog’s show ‘Gil’s Arena.’
On a recent episode of Gil’s Arena podcast, Kenyon Martin confronted one of the show’s staff members over the remarks he made in a video about the former NBA All-Star’s speech impediment. And it did not sit right with the big man.
Martin spoke about why he embarrassed the employee. He said he did it for the people who have stuttering problems and get bullied by people because of their conditions.
I brought this person into my home, right? Had this person around my wife, my kids, right? Ain’t treating him nothing but respect, right? And this is a loyalty situation. When people tell you, ‘Be careful who you bring into your inner circle,’ yeah, be careful who you bring into your home. This is the situation that I’m speaking of right now.

Kenyon Martin was a former number one pick in the 2000 NBA draft. His career spanned 15 years in the NBA as he played for the New Jersey Nets, Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Clippers, New York Knicks, and Milwaukee Bucks.
Martin has had beefs in the past. Not so long ago, the 48-year-old was involved in some exchanges with Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green. Martin was critical of the former Defensive Player of the Year’s antics and called him a ‘fake tough guy’.
However, this was different. It felt personal for Martin because it was something he had suffered from since childhood. It was good to see Martin stand up and take a stand. He saw it as the moment to stand up for the ones who struggle with stuttering and deserve to have a voice.
Things got tense between Kenyon Martin and the employee on Gil’s Arena
It is never easy to deal with issues like stuttering. People with the condition have usually been through difficult childhoods and have been prone to getting bullied more often than not. And Martin was no different. The rough childhood made him stronger.
During the episode, Kenyon Martin claimed that the employee had earlier posted a video making fun of his speech impediment. He called over the staff member on-screen and proceeded to show the clip.
I want people with their kids, teaching situation. Sensitive subject for me, right? I drew a line in the sand a long time ago with this. There is no apology ever that as an adult that I would accept for this. I have a speech impediment that everybody knows how I feel about this. Right? People that don’t have a voice think to speak up for themselves, this is what this is about. You don’t tease something that I have no control over it and think it’s ok.

Kenyon Martin on Kevin Durant’s recent comments
Over the last few weeks, the Houston Rockets, led by Kevin Durant, have struggled to find wins on a consistent basis. After their recent 100-92 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday, Durant said he needs to get out of the way, get in the corner, space the floor, and set some screens.

On Gil’s Arena, Kenyon Martin weighed in on the two-time champion’s comments.
I’m going to do you a favor KD, I’m going to finish the sentence for you. You need to go ask Ime Udoka. They need to go ask the coach, I’ll finish it since you can’t say it, I’ll finish it for you. Go ask Ime why they got me in this situation constantly throughout the season. Go ask him why we don’t have no plays.
