In Short
  • Skip Bayless ranked LeBron James 9th on his all-time greatest players list, sparking backlash from fans.
  • Bayless criticized James for being non-clutch and a liability in late-game situations.
  • Fans expressed frustration over Bayless's controversial opinions and questioned his credibility on sports commentary.

It was the return of Skip Bayless to First Take, and naturally, fans were expecting him to take on longtime friend and former colleague Stephen A. Smith on the most controversial topics. Among them, LeBron James was the first.

The 74-year-old has literally become the Los Angeles Lakers superstar’s loudest critic. Be it during his previous stint with ESPN or when he was helming Undisputed, Bayless has made it a habit of going after the King.

Even after he left FS1, the Oklahoma native has not stopped criticizing James, even though he does not have the public debate platform to do it on a regular basis.

Before getting back on national television, Bayless initiated the debate on his X page by claiming he was not moving the four-time champion up on his All-Time list despite his exceptional performances in the playoffs. That triggered the opening conversation on First Take.

You’ve already elevated LeBron James all the way up to No. 2 on your All-Time list. I have him at nine.

Bayless went on to justify his decision by pointing out how James was not clutch. On top of that, the Dallas Cowboys fan added that the Akron native is a liability in late-game free-throw situations.

Overall, he felt that the league’s all-time leading scorer was not good enough to be depended on, especially when the game is on the line.

Fans tear into Skip Bayless for asinine LeBron James take

Skip Bayless did agree that longevity-wise, no one is better than LeBron James. But nearly every other rhetoric he placed was critical of the Lakers’ superstar.

Fans felt that ESPN was doing a disservice to its fans by allowing the current host of The Arena to appear on the show again, as nothing he says makes sense.

To label arguably one of the, if not the greatest player in NBA history, ninth seemed as if Bayless was begging for attention. Check out examples of those reactions below:

Smith tried to call out his colleague and even presented a fact. But it was in vain, as Bayless stuck to his narrative, and even went ballistic at the thought that Smith ranks him second All-Time.

Skip Bayless keeps up with LeBron James rhetoric

It seems nothing fans or Stephen A. Smith say will push Skip Bayless to change his narrative about LeBron James. When he was back on The Arena, his colleagues tried to point out how their veteran host’s opinions were incorrect.

My problem with LeBron is, he’s had so many epic collapses in his career… It’s one after another.

This was the longtime reporter making it clear that no matter what anyone says, he is going to have a rebuttal to any reasoning that questions his logic of placing James ninth on his list.
