Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs were simply unstoppable in Game 5 of the Western Conference Semifinals against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The win gave the Spurs a 3-2 lead in the series with the momentum firmly in their hands.
The Spurs dominated the game from start to finish and never let their foot off the gas. They led in every quarter of the game and never gave the Wolves a sniff to make a comeback. In the end, they secured a convincing 126-97 blowout at the Frost Bank Center on Tuesday night.
During the first quarter, Ayo Dosunmu locked horns with Wembanyama as the former tried to get into the center’s head and rile him up. The duo exchanged some words with Wembanyama, smiling throughout the exchange.
After the game, Wembanyama was asked about the incident with Dosunmu while speaking to the media.
I feel like the rage baiting would have been maybe one of their strategies. So I feel like we need to stay composed as a team.

It was a calm and composed response from Victor Wembanyama, who did not let the Wolves guard get into his head. The Spurs center came into Game 5 with a chip on his shoulder after missing most of Game 4 due to his ejection after a vicious elbow into Naz Reid‘s neck.
It was a huge moment in the match as the Wolves came away with the win. While several critics demanded a suspension for Wembanyama’s actions, he was cleared to play in Game 5. Hence, getting into his head early on may have been a tactic for the Wolves on Tuesday and possibly heading forward.
The Spurs have the series in their hands. Wembanyama has taken the young side within one win from a Western Conference Finals appearance. It would be their first appearance since 2017.
Victor Wembanyama made his return with a monster performance
There is little to no doubt that Victor Wembanyama is the best two-way player in the league today by a mile. After all the drama surrounding his ejection in Game 4, the Frenchman came all guns blazing and stamped his authority early in Game 5.
Wembanyama has already broken a few records in his first-ever playoffs. In Game 1, he recorded 12 blocks, which is the most ever in a playoff game, but it ended in a losing effort. Wembanyama and his teammates responded strongly in Game 2 with a huge win, and they have done the same in Game 5.

The French center asserted his dominance from tip-off as the Spurs did not take long to build a healthy lead. Wembanyama ended his night with another double-double as he scored 27 points to go along with 17 rebounds, five assists, and three blocks.
The big win is surely a huge momentum shift for the Spurs. They will be looking to close out the series at the Target Center in Game 6 on Friday night.
Victor Wembanyama has already put his Game 4 ejection behind him
The 22-year-old has never been known for being violent or having a hot temper. Hence, the elbow on Naz Reid that got him ejected in Game 4 came as a surprise to many. While he was cleared to return in Game 5, the noise surrounding the incident kept lingering.
When asked if he had any regrets following his elbow on Reid, he said:
It’s been two games ago. It’s the playoffs. I was focused on my game that day and now I have to focus on Game 6 in Minneapolis in three days. It’s the playoffs. You have to move forward and I have to think about my team.

« C’est arrivé il y a deux matchs. C’est les playoffs… J’étais concentré sur mon match du jour et maintenant je dois me concentrer sur le match 6 à…
It appears that he is already over the incident, and it was clearly visible in his Game 5 performance despite the Wolves trying to get into his head. The winner of the Spurs-Wolves series will take on the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Finals. The defending champions booked their spot after a 4-0 sweep of the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday night.
