- LeBron James expressed feelings of being taken for granted by the Lakers after a recent incident involving a game ball presentation.
- Fans reacted negatively, accusing him of jealousy and reminding him of the team's support, including drafting his son.
- Lakers officials reportedly evaluated LeBron's performance anonymously to determine his future salary, raising concerns about his value to the franchise.
Now that their season is over, almost every other conversation surrounding the Los Angeles Lakers will involve LeBron James and his future.
Again, as usual, the King left everything up in the air in his final press conference. He made it clear he wants to spend time with his family, and then come up with a decision.
The franchise will afford him the time he needs, but he also knows that other teams are circling around the league’s all-time leading scorer.
The Cleveland Cavaliers, a potentially financially tantalizing move to the New York Knicks, or the Golden State Warriors are being touted as possible destinations. After Jeanie Buss‘s true feelings towards him came to light, many expect the superstar to leave.
Even though LeBron James has business interests in the city, has his family firmly rooted, and his older son playing in purple and gold, what Dave McMenamin revealed indicates how the Akron native feels about the Lakers.
Rather than hand it to Hachimura or Doncic or James, Pelinka walked to the front of the room and presented the ball to Redick, who had just presided over his 100th coaching win… He saw Pelinka’s priority in that moment as yet another example of the Lakers taking him for granted, sources said.

This means the four-time champion was disappointed in Rob Pelinka‘s decision, even though it was a monumental moment for JJ Redick and the other players.
Fans tear into LeBron James for jealousy
When basketball fans read about this, they were left gritting their teeth. They felt that LeBron James should not expect the game ball on a day JJ Redick, the man he helped land the head coaching job, deserved it.
Fans reminded the league’s oldest player that the Lakers have continued to keep him on massive deals and even drafted his son, even though he may not have deserved a chance to play in the NBA.
Fans felt that this was pure jealousy on the part of LeBron James and either trolled or lashed out at him for having this attitude. Check out examples of those reactions below.
Get over yourself Bron. There are so many reason so many people don’t like you.

🤣🤣🤣🤣the Diva off all Divas if this is true ofc. They drafted your son when he was going to go to china, how about that for granted

LBJ can go and take his son with him, the Lakers have made so many bad decisions dealing with LeBron emotions, build around Luka and Reaves a make the Lakers look like a team again before the retirement of Kobe,

Not true, Lakers don't need Bron. When he was out the Lakers were clicking at max power
— Dion Apollo (@DionApollo) May 13, 2026
Ok dang he felt unappreciated. So that means LBJ moves on from the Lakers right? 🤞🏾

Tell the crybaby to grow up. He's 41 years old and can't handle a perceived insult????

Once again the pouting little baby. This guy wants everything to be about him. It’s probably because you’re not a real Laker.

That’s funny when they drafted his son and gave him a guaranteed contract! Stop 🛑

LeBron James may have been soured by the recent narratives that Jeanie Buss and the top brass want to prefer building the team and appreciating those who will be with them for a longer time.
But even then, fans felt there was no need for such a reaction, especially when he has already received enough game balls in his career.
Lakers tried to crowdsource LeBron James’ value
Even though fans dismissed Dave McMenamin’s article for structuring it around how LeBron James felt the Lakers were treating him, there was something the ESPN journalist wrote that could be a cause for worry.

Lakers officials would on occasion partake in a parlor game of sorts during games at Crypto.com Arena, sources told ESPN: An onlooker was asked to observe James play for a stretch, disregard his name and age, and evaluate his play to come up with a salary number that “anonymous” player would deserve next season.
Dave McMenamin wrote
Had this been for any random player of that size and skills, it would not have seemed out of place on behalf of the Los Angeles Lakers.
But for them to do so for someone who is arguably one of the best players to ever play in the game, this could become a major talking point for days to come.
