In Short
  • Myles Turner criticized Doc Rivers for not enforcing fines, leading to players, including Giannis, being late to practices and flights.
  • Giannis Antetokounmpo's punctuality has been questioned, contrasting with his reputation for strong work ethic.
  • The Milwaukee Bucks face pressure to address internal issues and Giannis' future following a disappointing season.

There were a lot of noise surrounding Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks throughout the 2025-26 campaign. It looks like things are getting too uncomfortable once again after Myles Turner commented on the Bucks culture created by Doc Rivers.

During the latest episode of their podcast, Turner was asked by his co-host New York Liberty forward Breanna Stewart if the players in Milwaukee got fined a lot.

Doc Rivers never fined anybody. Guys were showing up to film whenever they wanted to show up. It was one of the craziest things I personally ever experienced. Giannis is going to show up whenever he wants, really. I think that this kind of just came with the territory of that. Once I saw it was going down, I was like, ‘Hey man, more power to you.’ They ain’t going to fine you. Do what you do.

The comments made by Myles Turner would surely surprise many people. Giannis Antetokounmpo is widely regarded and respected for his work ethic and his hunger to win. Hence, it is quite unexpected to associate the ‘Greek Freak’ as someone who isn’t punctual.

While Turner did name Antetokounmpo as someone who is late, the statements can be seen as a direct criticism towards Doc Rivers and the culture he instilled during his time with the Bucks. Unsurprisingly, Rivers’ time with the franchise has come to an end after a tumultuous 2025-26 campaign.

The Bucks missed even the Play-In Tournament this year as they finished at 11th place in the Eastern Conference standings. To add to it, the club had to deal with all the drama regarding Antetokounmpo’s future in the club. However after Turner’s latest statements, it is safe to assume that the locker room lacked a winning culture and there was a disconnect between the players.

Bobby Portis Jr. could not believe Myles Turner’s comments

Many predicted that the Bucks were having internal issues this season, especially after the NBA investigated the team for holding Antetokounmpo out. Myles Turner’s statements about Doc Rivers’ no-fine policy and the players being late to important meetings proved that all the assumptions surrounding the team were more or less confirmed.

Bucks forward, Bobby Portis Jr., appeared surprised by the remarks made by his teammate.

The pressure on the Bucks front office is higher than ever after their disappointing season. They have some big calls to make in the offseason this year.

Will Giannis Antetokounmpo stay or leave the Milwaukee Bucks?

The questions regarding Giannis Antetokounmpo’s future in the franchise have been left unanswered for a while now. The reports began in the offseason last year when the Bucks traded away Damian Lillard. While the former Finals MVP has been subjected to the trade rumors for the entire season, he has often reiterated that he loves Milwaukee.

The Bucks are open to listen to offers for arguably their greatest ever player. Despite his injury struggles and the Bucks’ poor season, Antetokounmpo still posted very good numbers in his limited appearances this season. He averaged 27.6 points, 9.8 rebounds and 5.4 assists in 36 appearances.

There is no doubt that there will be several suitors for Antetokounmpo in the offseason. The likes of Golden State Warriors, New York Knicks, Miami Heat and the Los Angeles Lakers have shown interest in the two-time MVP.

It remains to be seen how the Bucks approach this situation. Antetokounmpo is in his prime, and hence, he will want to contend for championships at this point of his career. However, the Bucks are far from it at the moment. The main question is will the Bucks continue to build around their franchise player or hit the reset button in the offseason.
