In Short
  • Paul Pierce believes LeBron James should retire due to ongoing criticism at age 41.
  • He compares LeBron's situation to other NBA greats like Kobe Bryant, who faced less scrutiny in their final years.
  • Danny Green argues that LeBron deserves a statue in Los Angeles for his contributions to the Lakers.

Even though the NBA playoffs are still in session, most of the discussions among anyone associated with the NBA have been about LeBron James.

His future with the Los Angeles Lakers is hanging in the balance, and many speculate that he could leave after reports of their descent towards him became public knowledge.

On top of that, it has been reported that ‘the King’ believes that the franchise has taken him for granted. The fuel to the fire was when he was not given a game ball despite his league-record-setting accomplishment.

Fans, and many others, have taken a swipe at the four-time champion for being petty when his head coach, JJ Redick, who he helped get the Lakers’ job, was deservedly getting the ball for his 100th win.

Criticism towards this may be justified, but those levied against James despite his stellar performances in the postseason have Paul Pierce believing his former rival should just retire.

I think he should (retire) for the simple fact that at the age, that he still receives the criticism… The greats wasn’t getting this criticism late. Nobody was criticizing Kobe when he wasn’t going to the playoffs in his last year. They was just enjoying his moments. Like the same with Jordan in Washington… For the simple fact the man is 41 and we still critiquing him like he 25 and should be winning championships still.

His KG-Certified colleague and former teammate, Kevin Garnett, tried to suggest that no one criticizes LeBron James for those things. But Pierce pointed out how other greats never faced this much ‘hate,’ despite being average in their final years.

Former teammate believes LeBron James deserves Lakers statue

LeBron James has stated that he will take the time this offseason to decide on his future. If he listens to Paul Pierce’s advice and retires, the next question is whether the Lakers would honor him with a statue outside the Crypto.com Arena.

He’s gonna get a statue in Miami and Cleveland. If he don’t, y’all are bugging… So then, yes. Every team he’s played for, if you don’t give him a statue, you are bugging.

Danny Green said on No Fouls Given

At this point, their podcast host started to question why the 41-year-old deserves a statue when he has not accomplished nearly as much as other Lakers’ greats have.

Hearing this, Pierce also chimed in and agreed with Danny Green‘s notion that James notched most of his accolades while with the Lakers. That is significant enough to see him immortalized in Los Angeles, along with guaranteed statues in Cleveland and Miami.

Rich Paul wants LeBron James and Drake to end their beef

Apart from LeBron James’ worries with the Los Angeles Lakers, he has a new headache forming in his personal life after rapper Drake dissed him in his latest album.

At the end of the day, I think it’s important for adults to really reconcile down the road and stay out of that stuff… I do think in any situation it’s important to remove the middleman… I think over time, you have to let two people to have an adult conversation if it’s able to get there.

Rich Paul said on the Game Over Podcast

This ‘beef’ started ever since the four-time league MVP sided with Kendrick Lamar after the latter started taking shots at Drake. That ended James and the Canadian’s close friendship.

Recently, the Lakers’ superstar has tried to calm the waters, but Drake dissing James in his latest Iceman track has made it clear that he is not over it yet. Rich Paul hopes the two reconcile without the presence of people who he believes have made it worse.
