It was a dominant performance from start to finish once again from Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs on Friday night. They booked their spot in the Western Conference Finals for the first time in nine years. What makes it even more special is that it is Wembanyama’s first-ever postseason.
The Spurs came out all guns blazing and took a nine point lead at the end of the first quarter. They never looked back since as they routed the Minnesota Timberwolves 139-109 in Game 6 at the Target Center. While it was a strong performance from Wembanyama, an incident took place in the first quarter that captured several eyeballs.
With a little over six minutes to go in the first quarter and the Spurs leading 20-11, Julius Randle got into the paint as Wembanyama soared high to block his shot. The Spurs center quickly turned around to secure the rebound but Randle made minimal contact on his back. Wembanyama launched himself outside the restricted area all the way out of bounds in what could be termed as a “flop”.

Victor Wembanyama is known for his pure and ethical basketball. However, that reputation came under the microscope in Game 6 against the Wolves after his first quarter theatrics. His reputation already took a bit of a hit when he was ejected in Game 4 after throwing a vicious elbow straight into Naz Reid‘s neck.
But in the end, the flop did not matter much as the Spurs dominated from tip-off and never let their foot off the gas. The win sealed a 4-2 win over a Wolves side that tried all kinds of tactics to rattle and get under Wembanyama’s skin.
Victor Wembanyama faces massive backlash from fans after his flop in Game 6
After his theatrical flop, replays showed that the contact made by Randle on Victor Wembanyama was minimal. It was an egregious flop as he failed to draw an offensive foul on the play. While it did not matter in the end, the display did matter to the NBA world.
Within minutes of the clip going up, fans took to the internet and slammed the Frenchman for his theatrics.

Could you imagine if Naz Reid flopped like this on his elbow? Wemby might have never seen the floor the rest of the playoffs

Wemby must have had some ballet lessons from LeBron James.

It’s sad that the dark side got that dude. Thought Wemby would be on the good side of basketball. Clearly wrong

Fans did not hesitate from ripping into Wembanyama. The posts ranged from jokes to flat-out outrage. They will be hoping to see less of it in the next series.
Victor Wembanyama and his teammates stepped up in Game 6
There is no doubt that Victor Wembanyama has been the game-changer in this series for the Spurs. The Wolves have had no answers for the opposing team’s center. He has been a dominant force in these playoffs and has already broken several records on the way.
On Friday night, Wembanyama ended his night on 19 points, six rebounds and three blocks in just 27 minutes of playing time. But it was Stephon Castle who stole the show in Game 6. The Spurs guard had a relatively quiet series, but scored a game-high 32 points to go along with 11 rebounds and six assists in the sixth game.

All five of the Spurs starters scored double digit points. They even got a good boost from Dylan Harper off the bench, who scored 15 points and shot at 75% from the field. It was an all-round solid performance from the Spurs.
The series win has now set up a clash against the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Finals. The defending champions have been invincible so far in the playoffs this year as they clean swept the Phoenix Suns and the Los Angeles Lakers in the first two rounds. A huge clash awaits the NBA world.
