- Trey Murphy is rumored to be traded from the New Orleans Pelicans, with Jeff Teague suggesting he could become an All-Star with the Indiana Pacers.
- Murphy had a strong individual season, averaging 21.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 3.8 assists, despite the Pelicans' disappointing overall performance.
- Teague's comments hint at a potential trade, as the Pacers are expected to improve next season with the return of star player Tyrese Haliburton.
There have been rumors swirling that Trey Murphy may be on the move from the New Orleans Pelicans. It is expected that there will be several suitors for the young forward, who is coming off his best individual season in the NBA.
Former NBA champion Jeff Teague kept it real with Murphy, saying he would be an All-Star if he played for the Indiana Pacers.
We always talk about you on the verge of being an All-Star. You right there. Your stats say ‘I’m an All-Star.’ Lot of guys make the All-Star based of their team. I was one of the guys who made the All-Star team based of the success of my team. So if your team was good, you’d be an All-Star. If you get traded to the Pacers you’ll probably be an All-Star.

There is no doubt that Trey Murphy is one of the best two-way players in the league today. He was one of the few bright sparks in a disappointing 2025-26 campaign for the Pelicans. However, the Pelicans may be at an unavoidable crossroads regarding Murphy’s future.
Murphy was drafted by the Memphis Grizzlies as the 17th pick in the 2021 NBA draft. However, he was immediately traded to the Pelicans, where he signed his rookie contract. In his fifth season, the Pelicans forward showed improvements in all categories as he averaged 21.5 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.8 assists in 66 appearances.
Jeff Teague believes that playing for the Pelicans hurt Murphy’s chances of being an All-Star. The 2025-26 campaign was a disappointing season for the Pelicans, as they finished 11th in the Western Conference standings with a 26-56 record. They failed to even make it to the Play-In Tournament.
Is Teague subtly telling Trey Murphy to request a trade to the Pacers?
There is a chance that Jeff Teague was being subtle when he made that statement. The former All-Star is well known for speaking his mind. He was born in Indiana and even played one season for them. The Pacers have shown interest in Trey Murphy in the past; hence, a move there may not be that big of a surprise.
The Pacers had a poor 2025-26 campaign, as they finished at 14th place in the Eastern Conference standings. They had the second-worst record in the league after the Washington Wizards.

But the Pacers are expected to be much better next season as they had to play the entire season without their star player, Tyrese Haliburton. The point guard tore his Achilles tendon in Game 7 of the NBA Finals last year. But he is expected to make his return for the next season as he has started to play some five-on-five basketball.
A pairing of Haliburton and Murphy could make some serious noise in the East. With Murphy’s ability to flat-out score the ball and to provide elite floor spacing, along with Haliburton’s playmaking and passing ability, the Pacers can pick up from where they left off last year.
Jeff Teague gets real on Victor Wembanyama’s unprecedented rise to power
Victor Wembanyama is an anomaly. In just his third season in the league, the French star became the first ever player in NBA history to be named the unanimous Defensive Player of the Year. He led the Spurs to their first postseason appearance in seven years and has now taken them to the Western Conference Finals.
The 22-year-old’s ceiling is off the charts. However, Jeff Teague believes that the Spurs center is nowhere near Kevin Durant’s level.
I’m gonna keep it real: I love Wemby because we ain’t never seen anything like him, but he’s not f**king with KD. It’s not even possible. Defensively, he’s gonna be the greatest defender we’ve ever seen … so let’s just stop there.

Wembanyama and the Spurs find themselves 2-1 down against the Oklahoma City Thunder at the moment. He still has a long way to go before his resume can hold up against Durant’s but based on his game so far, he is destined for greatness.
