- Caitlin Clark is leading the Indiana Fever after recovering from injuries that sidelined her last year.
- Fans are upset with the Fever's handling of injury notifications and support Clark's competitive on-court behavior.
- Analyst Cari Champion faced backlash for criticizing Clark's antics, with fans defending her style as key to her popularity.
After spending two-thirds of last year on the sidelines, Caitlin Clark is back to her best, leading the Indiana Fever to wins with her scoring and playmaking.
The 24-year-old wanted to do it last year, but soft-tissue injuries held her back. This time, she is being careful with her body, as she does not want anything to stop her from what she loves to do most.
Fans have been angered by the Fever’s handling of injury notifications and even drew the WNBA’s wrath. But despite that, they are doing what they can to ensure their most important player is healthy to do what she wants on the court.
One of the things she likes to do is talk trash and complain to officials. Regarding the former, Clark has just restarted jawing with opposing players.
Fans are loving it, knowing her swagger will help the point guard motivate herself on the court. However, not everyone seems to be happy with it.
The more we get to catch these glimpses of Caitlin Clark, I’m like, ‘I don’t like you. I don’t like the way you behave on the court.’
Cari Champion said on the Flagrant & Funny podcast
The former ESPN anchor was trying to suggest that, as a future ‘Face of the League,’ Clark is undermining herself as a leader, as all that talking takes away the gloss from her game.
Fans tear into Cari Champion for bizarre Caitlin Clark take
The 50-year-old cited other superstars such as Napheesa Collier, A’ja Wilson, Serena Williams, and LeBron James to suggest how they do not lean on antics on the court the way Caitlin Clark does.
Basketball fans took offense to this, as they felt the Fever guard’s behavior on the court is why she is successful and popular. They also took offense to when Cari Champion suggested that Clark behaves in an ‘entitled’ manner. They tore through her on social media, examples of which are below.
Another low IQ take from Cari, she must’ve been tired of looking dumb on CNN.

Have you ever seen an ACES game and the A’ja Wilson Special Whistle?
She’s a competitor who doesn’t conform to all the other letters playing in the W.. you mean

This is a joke , right ? CC receiving favoritism? 🤔🤣
— Kennedi Phillips (@KennediPhi24591) May 28, 2026
I saw Caitlin Clark receive a tech for hitting the base of the basketball net because of her own frustration.
Yet, I have seen at least ten other players do the same thing and not receive any type of foul calls 🧐
Why would you lend and credibility to someone who can't draw listeners to their podcast? They are using CC to try and bring in listeners. On the issue of favorable whistle. Please. That it is, at best, a disingenuous take. You're editors should do better.

You must not be watching games? The hate for Clark is unbelievable.

Lol, first of all, no one cares. Second of all, she’s not any different than someone like Aja Wilson. They both play hard, they both like to talk to the refs, they are both competitive.

Another CC clout chaser… sit down Cari or whatever your name is

Fans pointed out that Clark’s antics make her box office, just like Stephen A. Smith and many other analysts explained. If the players and the fans do not have a problem, then why would Champion?
Some fans even went to the extent of suggesting that the latter might be fishing for attention as she has been without a proper network job for a while, and also has been on the receiving end of criticism from her former colleagues.
Caitlin Clark will be listed as ‘probable’ going forward
One of the reasons the Indiana Fever drew the ire of their fans was when they announced moments before their game against the Portland Fire that Caitlin Clark would not play.

Now, after the league’s warning, they have continuously listed her as ‘probable.’ When Indystar’s Chloe Peterson asked head coach Stephanie White about it, she said:
Just to make sure that there’s clarity and that there’s no issues with league policy, I think that we will. I think you can expect to see it probable going forward.
Stephanie White replied
This means that the Fever are managing their leading scorer and playmaker’s back, which will likely keep her on the ‘probable’ list for the near future.
Asked Steph White on CC’s probable injury report status and what it may be going forward:

She did not dive into whether it was a serious problem. Therefore, it seems as if it is just a matter of ramping up Clark’s work in the medical room to keep her healthy.
