As we approach the second week of the French Open, players now have their sights on the championship. However, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Flavio Cobolli will clash in the quarter-finals of the French Open, as both players have made it to that round for the first time in their careers.
Cobolli, the Rome native, has already notched up 13 wins across this year’s clay-court season. He has ousted two top-10 players on clay, which gives him a boost as he faces Auger-Aliassime in the quarter-finals. Should he beat the Canadian star, he will break into the top 10 for the first time in his career.

Felix Auger-Aliassime vs. Flavio Cobolli: Match Preview
Felix Auger-Aliassime was forced to retire from his opening match at the Australian Open due to injury, but he bounced back from the disappointment without hesitation to win the Occitanie Open in France. He reached the final of the Rotterdam Open, losing the title to Alex de Minaur, before reaching the semi-finals of the Dubai Tennis Championships.
However, he had a series of bad runs from March to May and had to play the Hamburg Open days before the French Open just to find his rhythm. His hard work paid off in style at the French Open as he defeated Daniel Altmaier 4-6, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 7-6(7) and Roman Andres Burruchaga 4-6, 6-0, 7-5, 6-1 in the opening rounds. He came from a set down to beat Brandon Nakashima 5-7, 6-1, 7-6(4), 7-6(1) and defeated Alejandro Tabilo 6-3, 7-5, 6-1 after two hours and six minutes to reach the quarter-finals.

On the other hand, Flavio Cobolli failed to claim a victory in his first three tournaments of the season. He finally ended the spell of defeat at the Delray Beach Open and went on to claim his maiden title of the year at the Acapulco Open in Mexico. He failed to continue with the momentum at the Sunshine Doubles, winning just two matches.
In Munich, he reached the final but lost the title to Ben Shelton. He then reached the quarter-finals of the Madrid Open before losing to Alexander Zverev. In Paris, he has dropped just one set, beating Andrea Pellegrino, Learner Tien, and Wu Yibing in straight sets before overcoming Zachary Svajda 6-2, 6-3, 6(3)-7, 7-6(5) in the fourth round on Monday (June 1).
Felix Auger-Aliassime vs. Flavio Cobolli: Match Prediction
This is Felix Auger-Aliassime and Flavio Cobolli’s first quarter-finals at the French Open, which is impressive for both players. The last time Cobolli reached the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam was at the Wimbledon Championship last year, but he couldn’t get past former World No.1 Novak Djokovic.

Auger-Aliassime has previously fallen in the fourth round of the French Open in 2022 and 2024. He now joins Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner as players who were born in the 2000s to reach five major quarter-finals. He will be seeking to reach the semi-finals and even go all the way to win the title, as he’s the second-highest-ranked player after Alexander Zverev withdrew from the draw.
However, Cobolli leads Auger-Aliassime 2-0 in their head-to-head record. The last time the pair faced each other was at the 2024 Canadian Open, where Cobolli defeated the World No.5 6-3, 6-2. Cobolli has already picked up wins against Zverev and Daniil Medvedev on clay this season and will be aiming for his third top 10 victim on the red dirt in 2026.
Match Prediction: Felix Auger-Aliassime to win in four sets.
