Dana White has led the UFC since 2001, maintaining strong leadership and driving consistent growth across combat sports. He has pushed the promotion toward higher production standards and expanded its international reach. White is preparing to host UFC Freedom 250 at the White House South Lawn, marking a historic milestone. The event will be the first combat sports event held at the White House.

UFC Freedom 250 was first announced by US President Donald Trump during a Des Moines rally in Iowa back in July 2025. Since then, White has worked to ensure the event proceeds without issues. He has made repeated visits to Washington, D.C., to oversee planning and production preparations. The June 14 date also coincides with the US President’s 80th birthday, adding significance to the occasion.

White has posted Instagram stories to show his visits to Washington, D.C., and the White House. A claw-like structure is being constructed above the octagon as part of the event staging. Jumbotrons are also being installed in the Ellipse area to support approximately 85,000 free fan seats. The UFC boss recently said the event’s production deserves an award compared to their 2024 Las Vegas Sphere event.

The Sphere should have won every production award there is, and it didn’t. That doesn’t surprise me—it’s very political. If we don’t win every production award for the White House fight, they should just stop doing production awards altogether.

UFC 306, also known as Riyadh Season UFC Noche at the Sphere, cost nearly $20 million in production. It was the first combat sports event held at the Sphere venue. The event had major hype since the Sphere opened only a year before UFC 306. White believed that the production deserved recognition from the Oscars, Grammys, and Emmys. He also revealed a documentary would cover the event’s production.

In contrast, UFC Freedom 250 targets a much larger production scale than any previous event hosted by the promotion. The estimated budget for the event is around $60 million. Seating around the octagon is limited to 4,500-5,000 VIP guests and military personnel. White has said the promotion will spend about $700,000 just to replace the South Lawn grass to support the 25,000-pound octagon setup.

Dana White has acknowledged production challenges, including gnats and insect issues, during preparations. Weather conditions have also been considered in the planning and logistics for the event. However, White remains optimistic heading into the June 14 showcase at the White House South Lawn. The UFC CEO has expressed full confidence in the execution of the production and the overall investment.

White has faced major gambling losses over time, with some sessions reportedly nearing $3 million. He has acknowledged the volatility of high-stakes betting in Las Vegas casinos. White appeared on The New Yorker podcast discussing his continued gambling despite the house advantage. However, he also reaffirmed his stance and revealed that his wife, Anne White, has no issue with his gambling.

You know, my wife’s doing okay, too. We don’t have a lot to complain about. Yeah. And in the end, you only live once.

Dana White has urged US President Donald Trump to reconsider the new gambling tax deduction rules. The provision limits gambling loss deductions to 90% of winnings, drawing criticism from industry figures. White argues the change creates unfair tax outcomes for high-stakes gamblers. His stance reflects his strong personal involvement in gambling and highlights his continued passion for the activity.
