Victor Wembanyama stepped up when it mattered the most for the San Antonio Spurs in Game 3 of the NBA Finals. After winning the first two games on the road, the New York Knicks fans would have been optimistic about their chances in Game 3.
Unfortunately, that was not the case as the Spurs registered a closely fought 115-111 victory at Madison Square Garden on Monday night. The disappointed Knicks fans took to the streets, and things turned ugly as it was reported that several Spurs fans were attacked after the game.
While speaking to the media, Wembanyama took the opportunity to condemn any form of fan violence.
My thoughts is that it’s just a game. We are just playing a game out there. I am all for passion but to the respect of each other. It is unacceptable.

The Knicks fans are one of the most passionate fan bases in the NBA. It was reported that violence ensued, and police were forced to take action to control the crowd. It was also seen that the cops had to deploy pepper spray to control the chaos.
After two average performances by his standards, Victor Wembanyama came out aggressively from tip-off in Game 3. He even had a moment where he shoved Jalen Brunson in the first quarter. The altercation between the two saw the Knicks crowd direct explicit chants at the Frenchman, who may be the latest villain in the eyes of the fans.
Several videos surfaced across social media of Knicks fans attacking Spurs fans. The Spurs fans saw their jerseys ripped off, and some were even seen with a bloodied face. But as Wembanyama said, it is just a game, and he condemned the violence.
Karl-Anthony Towns’ message to the Knicks fans
Karl-Anthony Towns was arguably the best player on the court in the first two games. He has been a solid presence on both ends of the court. His performance after Game 2 saw Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal label him as the Finals MVP.
When informed about the violence that took place on the streets of New York, Towns had a message for the fans.
The game is built off of respect and passion. We want everyone to respect each other. We want everyone to enjoy basketball at its purest state. It’s the NBA Finals. There’s no better place to watch basketball. Leave the physicality to everyone on the court.

Towns struggled in Game 3 of the NBA Finals. He lacked aggression on the offensive end and scored just 11 points in 38 minutes. The Knicks center will be looking for a much-improved performance in Game 4 at the Garden.
Zohran Mamdani addressed the fan violence after Game 3
The Mayor of New York, Zohran Mamdani, was one of the many big names who were present at the MSG for Game 3. It has been reported that 21 people have been arrested, and five police officers were left injured after violence erupted at a watch party outside Bryant Park.
Mamdani took to his social media to weigh in on the fan violence.
We’ll win this series on the court (even if the refs refuse to call a flagrant on Wemby), not by targeting, harassing, or attacking Spurs fans. Knicks in 5.

Couldn't agree more. We'll win this series on the court (even if the refs refuse to call a flagrant on Wemby), not by targeting, harassing, or attacking Spurs fans.

Knicks in 5. https://t.co/5xRNhd7MrV
The hype and expectations surrounding the franchise are higher than ever, and expectedly so. The Knicks are looking to win their first NBA championship since 1973, and they are closer than ever. Hopefully, the fans will heed Wembanyama’s and Towns’ words, irrespective of the result after Game 4.
