Alexander Zverev and Flavio Cobolli withdrew from the Stuttgart Open after reaching the French Open final. Zverev defeated the Italian ace in five sets to lift his career’s first Grand Slam title.
Both players will be competing at the Halle Open to start their campaign on the grass swing. Neither of them has won a title on the surface, though the German has featured in three finals, including at the Stuttgart Open last year. Taylor Fritz won the Stuttgart title last year and is also competing in the tournament to defend his title. Fritz will also be in Halle next week.
The American ace has so far made five grass-court title clashes, winning all. These wins include four Eastbourne International titles. Last year, he clinched two titles on the surface, in Stuttgart and Eastbourne.
Apart from Cobolli, Fritz, and Zverev, the other seeded players in the draw are: Felix Auger-Aliassime, Ben Shelton, Daniil Medvedev, Alexander Bublik, and Andrey Rublev. It’s Bublik who will enter the Halle event as the defending champion. Medvedev finished as the runner-up last year.
The Russian ace has played four grass-court finals, winning just the 2021 Mallorca Open. Bublik is the winner of two grass-court titles from four finals, while Auger-Aliassime lost the same number of finals he has played. Rublev, like the Canadian ace, has also played two finals and lost them.
The tournament will also see Nick Kyrgios competing. The 2022 Wimbledon finalist made his comeback at the Stuttgart Open and lost his second-round match. He registered a match win in singles for the first time since March last year. Kyrgios received the wild card to compete. Daniel Altmaier and Max Schonhaus have also received wild cards.

Jannik Sinner, the winner of the 2024 Halle Open, has pulled out to manage his schedule. He competed in the first five Masters 1000s of the season and won them all, but crashed out in the second round of the French Open, losing to Juan Manuel Cerundolo in five sets.
He will be defending his title at Wimbledon, where last year he defeated arch-rival Carlos Alcaraz. The seven-time Grand Slam champion has pulled out of the tournament because of a wrist injury. Alcaraz played in the final in the previous three seasons, winning in 2023 and 2024 by upsetting 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic. Wimbledon starts on June 29.
