Mirra Andreeva had always been backed by many to win a Grand Slam title. And now that she has finally tasted Grand Slam glory, Coco Gauff‘s former coach, Brad Gilbert, has made a bold prediction about her rankings.

Andreeva, en route to her convincing win over Maja Chwalinska in the French Open final, dropped a set just once, in her second-round match. The 19-year-old, the third-youngest woman in this century to win a Major in singles, is back to her career-best ranking of No.5, which she reached last year in July.

Gilbert, during The Big T Podcast, has now backed her to win either Wimbledon or the US Open. And he even thinks Andreeva can dethrone Aryna Sabalenka from the top of the rankings table.

And I think Mirra Andreeva has a legitimate shot to win one of the next two Grand Slams. She conquered her demons in Paris, and full credit to her team. They sat her down after the third round because of her attitude. They didn’t like how she was on court. And then she had this little epiphany about watching a [Roger Federer] match: I need to act better. That’s been the missing part of her game is how she controls herself in the game.

Andreeva credited the 20-time Grand Slam champion for inspiring her during her run in Paris. She tried to “impersonate the way he behaves a little bit on the court” and not look frustrated with how she played.

I think her serve has improved a lot and she’s starting to flatten out the forehand, so I wouldn’t be surprised if she had a deep run here. I might even say she has a really good shot, to be in the top three to four favorites for the [US] Open. But I’m going to make a bold prediction: I think she finishes 2026 number one in the world.

Brad Gilbert added

It was Andreeva’s third title of the season following the Adelaide International and the Linz Open, both of which she won by defeating Victoria Mboko and Anastasia Potapova, respectively. Also, it was Andreeva’s career’s third Big Title following last year’s back-to-back wins in WTA 1000 events in Dubai and Indian Wells.

We are sad to announce that Mirra has withdrawn from our tournament. We are very happy to see that she had such a great result in Paris, but unfortunately, this also means some sad news for us. We wish you all the best for the rest of the season and hope to see you soon!

A spokesperson for the Berlin Open said on X

Aryna Sabalenka is competing as the first seed. Marketa Vondrousova is the reigning champion, but she did not participate this year.

Andreeva is scheduled to start her campaign on the grass swing at the Bad Homburg Open, the main draw of which starts on June 22. Jessica Pegula will be competing as the defending champion. She beat Iga Swiatek las year.

Andreeva has won three clay-court and three hardcourt titles but has never played a final on grass. At Wimbledon, she has so far made one quarterfinal. She reached the stage last year and lost the match to Belinda Bencic. Before Wimbledon, she competed in two warm-up events and suffered exits in the early rounds.

The main draw of Wimbledon is set to start on June 29. Last year in the tournament, Swiatek ended her title drought by double-bageling Amanda Anisimova, winning her career’s sixth Grand Slam title.
