After spending two seasons playing for the Minnesota Timberwolves, Julius Randle is on his way out once again. In a surprising late-night shakeup, the Wolves decided to trade Randle to the Brooklyn Nets in a three-team deal that saw Nic Claxton move to the Chicago Bulls.

Randle joined the Wolves from the New York Knicks in 2024 when they traded away Karl-Anthony Towns. The move from the Wolves saw them clear cap space to sign Ayo Dosunmu and a starting role for Naz Reid.

The news of the trade was first reported by NBA insider Shams Charania on Monday.

Minnesota is sending Julius Randle and the No. 28 pick in the NBA Draft to the Brooklyn Nets in a three-team trade that sends Nic Claxton to the Chicago Bulls, sources tell ESPN. The Timberwolves will acquire Brooklyn’s No. 33 pick for Randle and No. 28.

Randle did have some impressive moments during his two-year spell with the Wolves, but he saw his numbers dip in the playoffs this year. After reaching the Western Conference Finals last year, the Wolves were knocked out by the San Antonio Spurs in the Conference Semifinals in six games this year.

Meanwhile, Karl-Anthony Towns, who was traded away by the Wolves, has won the championship in his second year with the Knicks. He played an instrumental role in their championship run and was showered with praise for his elite defense on Victor Wembanyama in the NBA Finals. With Randle on his way out, it is safe to say that the Knicks were the biggest winners of the trade.

Julius Randle’s move to the Nets sees him join a team that is rebuilding its squad. The move will see him join forces with Michael Porter Jr. who put up some impressive numbers in the 2025-26 regular season. Despite his numbers, they finished at 13th place in the Eastern Conference standings.

Randle’s wife, Kendra Randle appeared to be excited on social media after the trade was announced. She wrote: “Ahhhhhh!!!!! (Black heart emoticons)”

While Randle returns to the City of New York, it will be in Nets colors. The main objective for the forward and the Nets will be to qualify for the playoffs next year.

Minnesota Timberwolves are on the clock with Anthony Edwards

After consecutive Western Conference Finals appearances in 2024 and 2025, many expected that the Wolves were ready to take the next step this year. With Anthony Edwards establishing himself as a superstar, expectations were high for the playoffs.

Unfortunately, they struggled against the Spurs and were eliminated in the second round. Former NBA champion Kendrick Perkins believes that the Wolves are on the clock with their franchise player.

The Wolves are on the clock. You can’t have Andrew Wiggins, former number one pick, leave, championship. Karl-Anthony Towns leave and championship. Kevin Garnett leave, championship. The thing that stands out the most is that y’all chose Rudy over Towns. Ant-Man gonna be looking like ‘Hey man’.

Kendrick Perkins said on Road Trippin’ Show

Perkins believes that time is running out for the Wolves with Edwards. After a disappointing end to their 2025-26 campaign, Edwards may be eager to contend for a championship elsewhere, considering he is in the prime of his career.

The Wolves guard is coming off his career-best season since being drafted into the NBA. After winning the championship with the Knicks, it looks like the Wolves front office made a mistake in choosing to keep Rudy Gobert over Karl-Anthony Towns. However, it looks like the Wolves are already making moves in the offseason.
