LeBron James Criticizes Current Generation’s Reliance on Trainers Over 5‑on‑5 Basketball
LeBron James has seen current generation players lean on personal performance coaches and shooting trainers in the offseason.

Over the 23 years LeBron James has been in the NBA, he has seen how the league has transformed from its physical past to now, where athleticism is supreme.
Gone are the big, beefy players who would use their size to impose their will. Instead, there are players who would run circles around those heavyweights, irrespective of height and weight.
But James has been the one constant. His extreme dedication to conditioning has seen him continue to play when others are expected to overtake him easily.
At age 41, he can still hold a candle to them. He may not have the above-the-rim athleticism of his past. But his intelligence, combined with his fitness, helps him play elite basketball at an age where most players are sitting on the couch.
The King has embraced new technologies as and when they come out. But there is something current players use that he does not agree with.
Like the basketball trainer is the most important guy in the summer… I don’t know when that dynamic shifted… When I got in the NBA… I would get nine other guys, and we would play in the summertime on a black court… I think, guys, if you’re listening, you’ve got to play more.
LeBron James said
His Mind the Game co-host, Steve Nash, agreed that it was important for players to get a feel of how physical basketball can be before they report to their teams.
LeBron James says he doesn’t know when the most important person in the summertime was the trainer and not the player:

Using cones and listening to trainers who have not played does not prepare the body for the demands of a season. Currently, most young players sign up with trainers and coaches in the offseason, something LeBron James does not do at all.
LeBron James debunks his former teammate’s son’s Draft criticism
While talking about current generation players, Steve Nash asked LeBron James about the criticism Cam Boozer was facing before the draft.

I played with his dad, it was kind of the same… Wasn’t the tallest, you know, under size four. Wasn’t the most athletic… Then we see what he was able to do… The narrative of what you or what people are saying you are is never the end of the story. Like you make your career what you want your career to be, and like I said, when you get the opportunity, just make the most of it.
LeBron James replied
The four-time champion has played with his father, Carlos Boozer, both on the Cleveland Cavaliers and on the national teams. James believes that one should not listen to these narratives.
He recalls how senior Boozer had the same narrative. Yet, he ended up having multiple All-Star selections and earned some max contracts.
LeBron James joked that playing against his former teammate’s son will remind him of how old he is. At the same time, he wants Cam Boozer to use this opportunity to make his own legacy.
Cameron Boozer rocked LeBron James’ draft style
There was a time when Carlos Boozer was alleged to have been jealous of LeBron James, and that is what saw that young team split over the course of the season.
In fact, frustrations from it led the now-Lakers superstar to put it on full display at a USA Basketball training camp. Now, though, it seems all is forgotten.
Boozer’s son, Cam Boozer, arrived for the 2026 NBA Draft wearing an all-white suit, replete with a white tie. It was a harkback to when James wore the same attire during the 2003 Draft.

It is unclear whether the four-time league MVP’s glowing praise led the Duke standout to honor James. The upcoming season will give him a chance to go up against the all-time great, just like his father did for most of his career.
