French Open champion Mirra Andreeva threw her racket in frustration after losing to Barbora Krejcikova, while looking towards her coaching box, saying, “I quit, I quit,” at the Wimbledon Championships. It was one of those performances that Andreeva would like to forget, while for Krejcikova, it will be one of those victories she will always remember.

Andreeva, who had not won any grass-court match this season before arriving at Wimbledon, started the match against Krejcikova well but suddenly found it hard to respond quickly to the pace of the match. However, she found a way to break the 2024 champion in the ninth game to claim the first set.

Krejcikova reacted well in the second set, pushing Andreeva deep into her baseline and using her powerful serving technique. She won the set 7-5, and the third set didn’t get any better for the Russian teenager. She was broken early and was 5-3 down before she managed to break Krejcikova for the second time in the match.

The 19-year-old was to serve to tie the set 5-5, but she hastily tried to win each point, which saw the experienced Krejcikova kill the momentum and win the match 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 in a grueling almost three-hour match at the All England Club. Andreeva then hurled her racket in frustration and hastily exited the court after shaking hands with Krejcikova.

This is not the first time that Andreeva has failed to accept defeat, especially after several wins. The teenager is known as a sore loser and most of the time flaunts it on the court by blaming her coaching team or the crowd and hastily shaking hands with her opponents. Krejcikova reacted to the World No. 5’s on-court behavior during her press conference:

It’s difficult. I mean, I know her. I’ve played against her many times and I know how she behaves. I’ve seen many matches and all that, so I more or less know what she’s like. But, on the other hand, I’m on the other side of the court, and I try to focus on myself, on my own game, on my points, on what I have to do.

Krejcikova’s career has been plagued by injuries, and she has dropped down the rankings since winning Wimbledon in 2024. This season, she suffered first-round exits at the Australian Open and French Open, but she’s now into the third round of Wimbledon and can pull another excellent run at the All England Club.

Barbora Krejcikova excited about winning again on Center Court at Wimbledon

Barbora Krejcikova has been one of the few players to win a women’s singles and doubles Grand Slam title, but has had to deal with injuries throughout her career. She has missed several tournaments this season and last due to fitness issues and injuries. However, she holds a remarkable record at Wimbledon.

She holds an 18-4 win-loss record in Wimbledon singles, and her overall Grand Slam singles record stands at 51-21. The victory over Mirra Andreeva is her biggest win since the 2024 final win against Jasmine Paolini. During the aforementioned media interview, she opened up about her win against Andreeva:

When I step onto the court, I just enjoy it. It’s a very special feeling to walk onto the Centre Court at Wimbledon. Every time I have the chance to do it, I feel very excited and very happy. It’s a slightly unreal moment that it’s really happening, because the chances of a girl making it here are very, very small. So every time I step onto the central court, it’s something unique and special.

Krejcikova will face Nikola Bartunkova in the third round of Wimbledon. A win over the Czech Republic star will seal her place in her first Grand Slam fourth round since triumphing at SW19 in 2024. Should Krejcikova reach the quarter-finals of this year’s Wimbledon, she’s projected to face Aryna Sabalenka.
