Caitlin Clark has been engulfed in a controversy involving Alyssa Thomas and the back injury she aggravated during that game against the Phoenix Mercury.

There is hope that the 24-year-old will return when the Indiana Fever face the Las Vegas Aces to start their four-game road trip out west.

If she returns, the team will be hoping she can pick up where she left off. The superstar guard has been on a tear, narrowly missing out on creating a new consecutive games record of 20+ points and 5+ assists.

She has also scored a career-high 21.2 points per game. Add her 8.2 assists, and she is up there amongst the best in the league.

In fact, she is third in scoring, second in assists, and ninth in rebounds amongst guards. Despite that, her peers felt she was only good enough to be the 11th-best guard in the league.

Last season, when she drew the most fan votes of any player, her peers ranked her ninth-best among guards. Clark eventually went on to be named captain for one of the All-Star teams, but did not play due to injury.

This season, despite her back injury, the Iowa native will be hoping to play in what would be her third All-Star game. The league announced that Caitlin Clark was voted as a starter for the third straight year. But what irked fans was that 11th-best guard vote.

Fans tear into ‘petty’ WNBA players for low Caitlin Clark vote

Last year, when Caitlin Clark was ranked ninth-best, there were many who defended the players. Her three-point shooting woes, along with her small sample size of games, were cited as reasons for that low vote.

But this time, not only has she played in most of the games, but she ranks among the top three in two of the most important categories associated with guards, and in the top 10 in another.

Sure, her defensive statistics may not excite anyone, but fans wondered whether it was pure jealousy from the other players that saw the Hawkeyes’ great being ranked so low. Check out examples of those reactions below.

By definition of how statistics show a player’s worth, Caitlin Clark should have been ranked amongst the Top 5 guards in the league, if not near the top. But to rank her that low made it seem as if her peers do not want her to be an All-Star.

Less than half WNBA players voted to select All-Star starters

While fans continue to get further proof of their theory that WNBA players despise Caitlin Clark, one of the reasons for this low vote could be attributed to how many of them voted.

A little less than half of the WNBA player body submitted voting ballots for starters ahead of this month’s All-Star Game. Some Los Angeles Sparks players did not receive their ballots, which teams are responsible for distributing.

ESPN’s lead women’s basketball insider added that only 85 of the 180 players managed to turn in a vote. Several Los Angeles Sparks players did not get a chance to vote, which reflected in how low Kelsey Plum was voted by her peers.

The superstar guard is second in the league in scoring, but the lack of player votes saw her rank 12th among guards. It seems the league and its teams have to do a lot more if this process is going to show its actual results.
