Emmanuel Acho was trying to clarify how he thought some of the fans who were vehemently defending Caitlin Clark by bullying her peers on social media were the wrong kind of attention the WNBA needed.
The former NFL linebacker believed that the Indiana Fever superstar drawing such crowds was causing this divide in the league. Not only are those fans threatening the safety of the players, but they also make it unpleasant.
Rather than focusing on playing basketball, Acho felt that the players now had to safeguard their mental well-being and personal safety.
He did end up getting a lot of backlash for that opinion, as Clark’s fans felt that labeling her as the ‘distraction’ was the former FS1 analyst’s attempt to shift the blame in her direction rather than talk about what needs fixing.
I’ve been called the ‘N’ word more times in the last 24 hours than I have in the last 24 years in ‘defense’ of Caitlin Clark. This is why I suggested that she is more detrimental than she has been an additive. Not because of her ability. Because those who have come to the defense of Clark.
Emmanuel Acho said on Speakeasy
Acho added that these fans who came in Caitlin Clark’s defense are those who are using her to unleash their misogyny, hatred, racism, and bigotry towards WNBA players.

Now, he has proof that even though he has supported the Iowa native in the past, his one opinion led her fans to attack him with the N-word and other forms of abuse.
Fans slam Emmanuel Acho for playing the victim
As soon as this clip was published, Caitlin Clark‘s fans realized what Emmanuel Acho was saying and reminded him that he only got what he deserved.
Had he not suggested that, to solve the situation the WNBA finds itself in, the person who has helped it grow by that much should move out, maybe the reactions would not have been in this manner.
Fans felt that this was the former NFL star crying wolf, even though he had played his part in the discourse. Check out examples of those reactions below.
You said the WNBA would be better off without Caitlin Clark the reason that everyone started talking about the league in the first place. You are only a victim of your own stupidity.

Jackie Robinson was also maligned in the media and targeted on and off the field. White pundits excused, minimized or just ignored the abuse.

Caitlin Clark exposes how Black people are actually NO DIFFERENT from the white people they villainize from the past.
The way the WNBA,…
Let me just play victim now after I got called out for my asinine takes..

Shut the fuck up, Acho.
What a good little grifter saying all the trigger words to cover up for your awful take victim mode engaged.

Dude is lying. It always happens. Say something dumb. People react and call you out on it. Deflect and claim racism.

This discourse is about to continue for a few days at least. People like Emmanuel Acho and others want to continue talking about it, as it draws viewers and subsequent revenue.
However, it can all die down if Caitlin Clark does not speak up much or relay into whatever they are saying. If she maintains her stand from two years ago, these narratives will stop in an instant.
Caitlin Clark’s Fever to start four-game road trip against A’ja Wilson’s Aces
While Caitlin Clark might be listed as still recovering from her back injury, she is already back at practice alongside her Indiana Fever teammates.

They are preparing for what will be a tightly packed road trip, starting with a visit to Las Vegas. There, they will face an Aces team that just lost the Commissioner’s Cup.
A’ja Wilson did not play in that game, which means she will be raring to go once she is given the green flag. That makes this upcoming battle one that will give the Fever its best outlook on how well the team is performing.
They have championship aspirations this season, and for that, they need to dial in their schemes. This road trip will also bring them face-to-face with the Phoenix Mercury. If they can go through it without a repeat of past incidents, the focus should squarely be on basketball for the immediate future.
