Naomi Osaka is into the fourth round of Wimbledon for the first time in her career. On Friday (July 3), the Japanese ace defeated Daria Kasatkina 6-1, 6-3 to reach the fourth round of Wimbledon for the first time in her career.

Prior to her match against the Australian ace, the four-time Grand Slam champion knocked out Anastasia Gasanova and Elsa Jacquemot. Osaka played Jacquemot on the first day of the main draw events and the tennis world was eagerly waiting to see what outfit she chose for the grass-court Major.

Known for making fashion statements, Osaka did not break Wimbledon’s strict dress policy as she walked onto Court 3 wearing a white kimono, inspired by O-Ren Ishii, Lucy Liu‘s character in Kill Bill, a martial arts movie directed by Oscar-winning director Quentin Tarantino.

Her fashion is getting more attention than tennis and Osaka loves it, and she has made it clear that she wouldn’t be getting tired of talking about her stylish clothes. She said at the press conference:

I would actually prefer to talk about my clothes. And it’s kind of weird, in some ways, I feel like I’m a lot more equipped to talk about my clothes than to talk about my tennis. And it’s strange because I’ve been playing tennis for like twenty-something years. Some days I don’t feel like an expert on it. But if we were to talk about my outfit, I feel like I could keep going on and on and on. I find it really fun that people care and people are doing these deep dives into the fabric and the making of stories.

At the French Open, she donned a golden outfit inspired by the Eiffel Tower, while at the Australian Open, she wore a jellyfish-inspired outfit.

From my end, those two kind of go hand in hand. Obviously, the longer I’m in the tournament, the more stories I can tell with my outfits anyway. I like to mix and match. I wouldn’t say there’s one above the other. Even tennis-wise, I feel really good right now. I feel pretty confident. I feel like I’m playing really well. I think on my end, there’s only so many tennis questions you can answer, you know? It’s kind of like the clothing questions are endless a little bit.

Osaka will be playing back-to-back fourth rounds of a Grand Slam tournament. In the Paris Major, her run was ended by World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka.

After her win over Daria Kasatkina, Naomi Osaka was spotted in the stands of Court 18 to support compatriot Shintaro Mochizuki. The qualifier came from a set down to upset rising star Rafael Jodar in four sets.

But Mochizuki has a huge challenge in front of him as he will be up against defending champion Jannik Sinner, who clinched an easy straight-set win over Jenson Brooksby. Mochizuki is competing in the grass-court Major for the third time in his career.

He will be playing the fourth round of a Major for the first time. Mochizuki arrived at SW19 without a tour-level win this season. A former World No.92, Mochizuki has never won a title on the tour.

Sinner, who defeated arch-rival Carlos Alcaraz in last year’s Wimbledon final, is chasing his sixth title of the season following his wins in the first five Masters 1000s (Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo, Madrid, and Rome).

Osaka, on the other hand, has yet to win a title since the 2021 Australian Open. Before arriving in London, she reached her career’s first grass-court final at the Bad Homburg Open but handed the walkover to Karolina Muchova.
