Cam Schlittler bounced back on Monday. After a poor outing in his previous start against the Detroit Tigers, the New York Yankees pitcher had another dominant showing, this time in the crucial series opener against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Last Monday, the Yankees had Schlittler go up against reigning American League Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal in a pitching duel. The right-handed pitcher had a day to forget as he gave up 3 home runs in the first inning.
In the end, this outing turned out to be the worst one of his MLB career. In the 7-3 loss, Schlittler gave up a career-high 4 home runs and 6 earned runs. That loss turned out to be the Yankees’ 5th successive defeat.
The Bronx Bombers went on to lose to 2 more games and found themselves on a 7-game losing skid. At the same time, the Rays were on a 7-game winning run, which widened the gap between the two teams for first place in the AL East division.
A 5-2 win in the series opener against the Minnesota Twins snapped their losing streak. However, they were unable to keep the winning run going and lost the series with back-to-back defeats, leaving them with a 49-40 record.
The Rays also entered the game on Monday on the back of a 2-game losing run. In this huge 4-game series opener, the Yankees struck first with Cam Schlittler’s dominant performance from the mound.

As for the Yankees’ offense, they had just 3 hits. However, all of them were home runs. 2 home runs from Jose Caballero and 1 from Ben Rice propelled them to a 5-1 win in the series opener against the Rays at Tropicana Field.

After the game, Schlittler hit back at his critics. While speaking with the reporters, the pitcher admitted that it was “personal” for him to deliver a strong performance following the disappointment against the Tigers last week.
They want to say there’s (expletive) regression because I have one bad outing. It was personal to go out there and just have a dominant start, and put this team in the right position.

As of now, the Yankees’ star is a leading candidate to start the All-Star Game on July 14. This depends on his pitching schedule, as he is set to start against the Washington Nationals on Saturday.
An NBA star recently heaped huge praise on Cam Schlittler
After a poor start, Cam Schlittler bounced back to his Cy Young Award form following 8 strong innings against the Tampa Bay Rays. While the pitcher has not won the award yet, an NBA star recently heaped huge praise on him in regard to this honor.

A few days back, Schlittler had a career-high 13 strikeouts against the Cincinnati Reds. As per Sarah Langs of MLB.com, he was the youngest Yankees pitcher to have at least 13 strikeouts in a game without giving up a single walk.

This performance saw him lower his season ERA to 1.71. New York Knicks star and newly crowned NBA champion Josh Hart praised him on X. In his post, he expressed that Schlittler was hands down the Cy Young Award winner.

Schlittler is indeed one of the prime candidates for the American League Cy Young Award this year. In his bounce-back performance on Monday, he threw a total of 101 pitches. Out of them, 72 were strikes. Apart from that, he once again did not give up a single walk.

The Yankees are now 3 games behind the Rays in the AL East standings. They will have Will Warren on the mound on Tuesday. If the team can sweep their division rivals, they will tie them in the standings before the final series of the 1st half of the season.
