Since the Jaylen Brown discourse is continuing even after his blockbuster trade, Stephen A. Smith has drawn a lot of criticism for his past comments.
He first started this discourse about the 2024 finals MVP two years ago when he revealed that there was an opinion going around that nobody liked Brown due to his outspoken views.
When the latter asked him to state his sources, the ESPN analyst made it clear that he was not going to reveal his sources. But he added that there was enough noise in the NBA that prompted him to say this.
Fast forward two years, and the chatter resumed with Smith and his colleague, Kendrick Perkins, repeatedly asking Jaylen Brown to stop hampering his image with his live streams.
Draymond Green picked up this topic on his Podcast with Jemele Hill and mentioned that Smith does not know the reality behind anything and was just blabbering about the new Philadelphia 76ers star. To this, the 58-year-old replied.
You and I were pretty tight. And then after the choking incident with Rudy Gobert and the slap to Jusuf Nurkic, I upset you because I called you and said it’s difficult to defend you… You could give Skip Bayless an opportunity to have a conversation with you, man-to-man… You’ve never accorded me that opportunity.
Stephen A. Smith said on his namesake show
Smith made it clear that, to this date, he is not sure what he said wrong about the choking and slapping incidents and had wanted to talk things over with the four-time champion.

However, he felt that Green bringing on Skip Bayless on his podcast recently and not doing the same felt as if the former Defensive Player of the Year was intentionally avoiding him.
Stephen A. Smith tears into Jemele Hill
Moments before addressing Draymond Green, Stephen A. Smith reacted to this entire clip by first sarcastically reacting to how Jemele Hill laughed on the Warriors star’s show.

This was the father of two, making it clear to Hill that he has extensive experience interviewing players in and around locker rooms, and also building contacts and relationships through which he still gets reports to this date.
Whenever he states a fact, he only reveals it after he has listened to his sources. That is unlike several others in the podcast circle, who he believes just say whatever they want to without thinking about the consequences.
The ESPN executive producer started to detail how long he’s been working as a beat writer and let it be known to Hill that she did not have nearly any of the access that he enjoyed.
Jemele Hill responds to Stephen A. Smith
Clips of Stephen Smith going on this rant against both Draymond Green and Jemele Hill spread on social media fast enough to draw the attention of the latter.
You put a lot of thought into my laugh, which I guess is flattering… I’m well aware of your journalistic credentials… Draymond and I had a broad journalistic discussion about the relationship between players and reporters… I didn’t mention you. I honestly wasn’t even thinking about you. That discussion wasn’t about you at all.

It seems you’re responding to implications and not what I actually said. You put a lot of thought into my laugh, which I guess is flattering.

The 50-year-old reiterated that she was not taking shots at Smith’s lack of sources. Rather, she was talking about how journalists in general have started to say anything and everything.
