It has been over two weeks since it was announced that LeBron James would be leaving the Los Angeles Lakers as a free agent after eight years. It is the longest time he has played for a franchise in one stint.

James has been the face of the league for two decades now. His impact and influence not just on the court but even off the court is unfathomable. He may be well past his prime, but his impending free agency is not just affecting his close ones and fans but also the entire NBA.

In an interview with CNBC’s Andrew Ross Sorkin, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver gave his honest opinion on James’ free agency decision.

I would like him to make his announcement already, so he can finish the schedule. Because as you might imagine, the teams are calling us, the networks are calling us, and everybody wants to lock in the schedule. But it will influence how we set the schedule, how we set opening week, Christmas Day, etc.

Not only are the fans running out of patience, but even Adam Silver and the NBA are eagerly waiting on James’ future club. The NBA often schedules the big players and teams to face off in the opening week and on Christmas Day.

While James is very much in the backend of his career, he is still the biggest name and crowd puller in the NBA. His decision to not sign with the Lakers did surprise many, but there has been no shortage of suitors with championship goals despite his current age.

James seems to be in no hurry as he enjoys his offseason playing golf and spending time with his loved ones. However, as Silver said, the league will not be able to release its schedule for the 2026-27 campaign until the King makes his decision.
