The LeBron James free agency saga continues. It has been over two weeks since James entered the free agency market. Since then, he has been linked to almost every franchise in the league, and it does not seem to be slowing down.

While James has been linked to one club after another over the last few weeks, one club that has not been named so far is the Indiana Pacers. But it looks like Pacers star guard Tyrese Haliburton tried to do the work for his club.

During a Thursday taping of the Mind the Game podcast, Haliburton revealed that he texted James about coming to the Pacers. However, James replied to his message with a hilarious response.

The response was two laughing crying faces. After Haliburton realized that James did not take the offer seriously, he decided to back out and not pursue any further.

Tyrese Haliburton shares a good relationship with the King, as the two spent time together during the Summer Olympics in Paris in 2024, where they won the gold medal. James was one of the first players to show support to Haliburton when the NBA community labeled him as “overrated”.

A number of clubs have shown interest in trying to sign James, who will be heading into his 24th season in the NBA. But for now, it is clear that the Pacers are out of the race.

While Haliburton continues to recover from his Achilles tear, the Pacers had a very poor 2025-26 campaign. They finished at 14th place in the Eastern Conference standings after reaching the NBA Finals last year. With Haliburton ready to go for the upcoming season, the Pacers will be looking to make a deep run once again.

LeBron James would have been a good fit in Indiana alongside Tyrese Haliburton

The Pacers have shown that they are a dangerous team with Haliburton in the lineup. The Achilles tear he suffered in Game 7 of the NBA Finals last year was a huge blow to the club, as not only did they lose their best player in an important game but also for the entire 2025-26 campaign.

However, with Haliburton, the Pacers reached the Eastern Conference Finals in 2024 before reaching the Finals the following year. James and Haliburton playing a two-man game would be a problem for any team in the NBA.

James has always been at his best when surrounded by shooters. The Pacers have a few in Aaron Nesmith and Kelly Oubre Jr.. But the most important one would be Ivica Zubac.

The big man has been a force to be reckoned with in the last few years. The Pacers traded for him at the trade deadline this year, and he is going to be a dangerous player with Haliburton pulling the strings. Unfortunately for Haliburton and the Pacers, James has other ideas, or else it would have been a good fit for all parties involved.

Tyrese Haliburton asked LeBron James about his free agency decision

It is more or less likely that the next team will be LeBron James‘ final in the NBA. Teams have been actively trying to pursue him in the offseason. His agent, Rich Paul, even revealed that they have been doing an in-depth study to help the four-time champion decide on his next club.

During the Fanatics Fest in NYC, Haliburton asked James about his next move in front of a sold-out crowd. James was quick to dismiss the question:

We already talked about this in the back…

A smiling Haliburton backed out immediately as he was just pulling James’ leg:

Okay, okay. I’ll leave it alone.

The 41-year-old is in no hurry at the moment. He may take a few days or even a few weeks before he announces his decision to the world. But for now, all his fans can do is wait for the announcement.
