Novak Djokovic recently sat for an interview with CBS Mornings to talk about his Prime Video documentary, Novak Djokovic: The Wolf in Winter. And there, he also spoke glowingly of his wife, Jelena Djokovic, for being a constant source of support throughout his career.

Jelena watched a documentary on her husband’s remarkable career made by a Kiwi filmmaker. And upon watching it, she got very emotional. She took to her Instagram story and wrote: “Made me cry“.

Watch the documentary here:

My wife has been a rock. She has been so supportive. It would be very difficult for me to still be able to do what I do without her support and her keeping the whole household, and also emotionally dealing with our children.

His kids, Stefan and Tara, were there during the recently concluded Wimbledon. They, in fact, watched their dad win the longest quarterfinal match at SW19 against Felix Auger-Aliassime (lasted for five hours and 15 minutes).

After I leave them [his kids, Tara and Stefan], the absence- missing out on some important dates and events in their life…it’s hard. And she continues to support me to live my dream.

Djokovic also admitted that he did not fully recover after that match against Auger-Aliassime and then lost easily in the semifinals to Jannik Sinner in straight sets. Sinner later beat Alexander Zverev to defend his title.

Novak Djokovic opens up about his retirement plans

Novak Djokovic thinks his retirement is closer than ever. Even though he wishes to hang up his racket at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, he quoted Andre Agassi to express uncertainty about his future.

I still feel I can compete at the highest level. However, the moment when I will finish my career is certainly closer than ever. Andre Agassi once said that he does not know when he will end his career, but when it happens, everything will unfold very fast.

Djokovic, this year, has so far played just five tournaments. Apart from the three Majors, he participated in the Indian Wells and the Italian Open. The only time he reached a final was in the Melbourne Major, where Carlos Alcaraz defeated him in four sets.

I think he is right. Some want to retire while they are still at the top, and others when their bodies can no longer endure the effort. On the other hand, there are athletes who decide to leave when they realize they can not challenge the world’s best players anymore. I’m just trying to enjoy the fact I’m still able to play.

Agassi, in his autobiography, Open, opened up about his love-hate relationship with tennis, that he wanted to retire but also didn’t want to retire. He eventually called time on his career at the 2006 US Open.

But Djokovic doesn’t have a love-hate relationship with the game. He wants to keep prolonging his career, but his body is not supporting him as much as it used to when he was in his 20s and early 30s.

At this stage of his career, he is only focusing on competing in the Majors and is next expected to play at the US Open. Last year at the US Open, Djokovic lost in straight sets to eventual champion Alcaraz.

The seven-time Grand Slam champion, who has been on the sidelines since the Barcelona Open, is set to make his comeback at the Cincinnati Masters, which he won last year after receiving a walkover from Jannik Sinner. At the US Open later, he stopped Sinner from defending his title. Djokovic last won at the New York Major back in 2023.
