Ian Machado Garry is a polarizing personality, but he showed everyone at UFC 330 that he is a high-level fighter. Despite the lack of finishing ability, the Irish star has focused on improving the technical aspects which helped him give a competitive fight against Islam Makhachev.
Makhachev defended his title with superior control against Garry at UFC 330. Nevertheless, Garry showed how much more he can improve with every fight, considering he is just 28. Despite the loss, he was not disappointed in his octagon interview with Joe Rogan or in any backstage videos as well.
After going back to the locker room following his loss to Makhachev, Garry was spotted talking to his wife and coaching staff. The Irish fighter cited Charles Oliveira as inspiration while explaining why the UFC 330 loss doesn’t affect him all that much.
I’ve learned this from Charles [Oliveira] – losing in this sport means nothing. It’s how you come back from it. There’s nothing we did that didn’t work today, just more of it. We just got to the top of the mountain and we fell short. Don’t stop. We come back, we do it again.

The story of Charles Oliveira is inspiring for many UFC fans as well as fighters. ‘Do Bronx’ has 11 losses in his career. Despite that, Oliveira comes back stronger after each loss that he encounters. This was evident after the Brazilian lost to Ilia Topuria last year at UFC 317.
The first-round knockout loss made many fans believe that the fan-favorite Brazilian’s prime could very well be over. However, Oliveira rebounded by stopping Mateusz Gamrot just three months later to show everyone that he was far from done.
This year at UFC 326, the Brazilian dominated Max Holloway on the ground to win the BMF title. This type of comeback after a devastating loss is what has inspired Ian Garry. Losing is part of the sport, but rebounding from a loss is the most difficult aspect.
Ian Garry could very well be entering his prime at 28, and could very well fight for the title in the next year or the year after that if he can put on a winning streak.
It remains to be seen if Garry returns to fight later this year, considering he is very active in the UFC. If so, his conversation with a top contender after UFC 330 could be the perfect return fight for him.
Ian Garry confronted Michael Morales after losing to Islam Makhachev at UFC 330
Michael Morales entered the UFC through Dana White’s Contender Series, and has racked up 7 wins (5 finishes) in the promotion so far. So far, he has shown good takedown defense and knockout ability, which makes him a dangerous threat for anyone in the UFC.

Before UFC 330, Morales predicted that Makhachev would defeat Garry in a competitive bout. Upon meeting Garry after the fight, things took an unexpected turn. The Irish star had this to say to the welterweight contender from Ecuador.
All you talk it’s ok, just make sure you back it up. I don’t know what story you made up about meeting me, I’ve never encountered that. You’re a good fighter, show up, keep winning.

The context of the conversation is unknown at the moment. Morales is not fluent in speaking English, and Garry could be addressing something that the undefeated star spoke about him in the past.
Morales just kept nodding and shook hands by the time Garry was done talking. Even MMA fans in the comment section couldn’t understand the context. Some thought it was just mental warfare from Garry.
Morales is without an opponent at the moment. If Garry decides to return later this year, facing Morales and winning could be the best way to rebound from the UFC 330 loss.
